I don’t want to get too excited

but..... my mind is not as sharp as some of the  other fans on here but after two good results is this our best start in 53 years, when we won our first two matches 4-0. Against Hartlepool and Lincoln, both at home in 1965. Am I right.

Made me laugh today when the chant of "E I E I E I O, up the football league we go..." came out. Just a tad early, Imho. We aren't Leeds fans, getting all in front of ourselves.

Yes Rob, but we did go up the football league today, by one place; small mercies and all that.

Won the first two matches of the 2003/04 season, then didn't win for six games and fell towards the bottom six with the tag of 'relegation favourites' with bookmakers.

It didn't turn out too badly though - unless you were a bookmaker!

We won both games in 2012 also, maybe goal difference makes this season better though

This is the thirteenth time we have won our opening two league (or Conference) games.

The best (goal difference wise) was indeed 1965-66 with the two 4-0 wins. No other season has had a goal difference of more than 4.

The other seasons with a goal difference of 4 were:
2012-13: 5-1
2003-04: 5-1
1983-84: 5-1
1928-29: 7-3

Of those 13 seasons, in only three did we win the next game: 1994-95, 1990-91 (won first 5) and 1946-47 (also won first 5)

1990-91 and 1946-47 show that such a start can have different conclusions. In 1946-47 we had the most successful season of any league club ever at two points per game and were champions by a mile with 72 points (would have been 105 at 3 per game). In 1990-91 we didn't even make the playoffs.

Edit: Replying to BangorMaine from Bangor, County Down  ;)

P.S. Wasn't Bangor Maine orginally meant to be called Sunbury?

If so a lot of Steven King novels would probably have different titles? Its a bit like living in Cabot Cove where a murder is always solved in 57 minutes...by Jessica Fletcher...makes the Bronx and like look tame..

P.S. Wasn't Bangor Maine orginally meant to be called Sunbury?
