Escape to ....where?
« on September 30, 2018, 12:06:50 pm by Boomstick »
Right you have been on holiday, or visited a place and like it so much that you said "I could live here"

Where are your places you could move to?

1. A place in the UK

2. A place abroad

For me it's

1. Cornwall (north coast)

2. Wengen (switzerland)

I'm fascinated by every place I've ever visited. Each one has its pros and cons. I could imagine living in most places I've visited.

Except Birmingham. That's a dystopian shite hole.

The old part of Turin is really nice, but everywhere is good when your on holls, am Berlin today but really needed more time, Prague tomorrow. I could easily live in Siclly, the food and everything is great-when you're on holidays.

Berlin you need about 3 or 4 days in really. Prague, a day, 2 at most, if you're wanting to see everything. Lovely city though, nice and laid back.

yeah, really looking forward to praha, we will stay 3 maybe four days if we find some side trips, hope they don't treat their coaches to defenestration if they don't win as they used to with members of council.

I've recently fallen in love with Newark, what a beautiful little town.
Also Scarborough and Whitby would do.

La Rochelle on the west coast France.

1. Most places. Excluding Blackpool, Neath, and East Hull.

2. Spend half my time in Lisbon. Half lived there for over a year now. You learn after a while it's a bit of a difficult place to live, especially if you don't speak the language (I only half do). I'm told it's to do with the Portugal's 'dark', conservative, history. The Portuguese are generally a bit stand-offish. None of them will respect a queue. There's also a real lack of opportunities for outsiders.  As soon as you cross the border its a completely different story, the Spanish are much much friendly. Both me and my partner agree its chalk and cheese.

Anyway, I'm moving to Holland in November (Utrecht) so I'll have to say there I guess. Only ever visited once, to Amsterdam, and then drove through the country. What blew me away was the level of infrastructure and how it worked!

UK - anywhere on Speyside, or the coast of the Black Isle..

Abroad - never actually been there but the beach house used on Death in Paradise would do.. that or Tuscany..

Copps

I was saying the same last week.

Had a meeting in The Hague. Coming home, there was a tram stop right outside the hotel to Den Haag station. Then a train every 7-8mins straight to the centre of the main Terminal at Schipol. 40 mins from the hotel to the check-in desk and it cost less than a tenner.

Then I flew into Birmingham and got the train from the airport to New Street. Every single train was cancelled or more than 30mins delayed. Stood up and crammed in like sardines on a train with air con not working. Took 45 mins for an 11minute journey.

Holland is as densely populated as England. But they consider services like transport to be services. You CAN make them work if you consider them to be important enough.

As BST says the Trains are excellent there. Not only do they publish them a year in advance - they seem to run to them - and the punctuality is sensational. Also if you have to change it seems that you get off at say Platform 4 and walk 10 paces to P3. Go to Donny and as you are stood on Platform 8 with a minute to the Thorne Train coming you then have to run to Platform 1 cos they have changed the Platform

Anyway Utrecht for me = Ledig Erf Cafe Bar - I loved it ! Was a centre for Racing Cyclists I seem to remember with Tde F Posters and Bikes adorning the wall - and sensational Beer but that too is a given with Belgium and Germany "nearby"

UK - York, I know it's not far away but my favourite city in the country.

Rest of the World - Either somewhere in Florida or Melbourne, Australia. Love Orlando for the theme parks and the weather, but Melbourne has to be the best place I've ever been.

1. Probably Manchester or Bristol, possibly Leeds. I like to live somewhere lively with plenty going on but had my fill with London.

2. I lived in Sydney for a year and absolutely loved it, would happily go back if only it was closer to friends or family. There's not really anywhere else that massively appeals to me.

Interesting that two people have said Christchurch. I've spent a fair bit of time in NZ and really enjoyed it, been to Christchurch ten years apart and it saddens me to say it but post-earthquake it was a completely different place. I thought of the bigger towns in NZ Wellington was the standout.
