Form
« on November 07, 2018, 07:27:22 am by karlos »
The form at the moment is just what I expected at the start of the season. Not enough was done to improve the squad and we was always going to get caught out eventually. It was clear we needed a proven striker and I said back at the very start Will's wasn't the answer and was shot down for this well look at him now!. I love the club but I feel without major additions we won't be challenging for the play offs, you can slate me for this and call me a doom merchant but it is fact at present we are just not good enough. It is ok saying we did well against the top three but consistency is the word we need and that means playing well against all teams, that's what good teams do play consistently. Now I hope I'm wrong but you've now surely got to agree the side is not consistently good enough. I welcome replys both for and against as that is what we debate is all about.

Unless you buy in to the ‘no competition for places’ argument then the size or nature of squad does not account for the embarrassment on Saturday. This group of players has shown they can play at level of the very best in this league, so abject showings like Charlton has no excuse. There is probably a longer term argument for reshaping squad more in the image of the current manager - and needing solution to our loan players who will not be here forever - but what we need most of all is this group of current players getting back to where they were only a month ago. Very poor on Saturday.

Seems to me that results and form have dipped since McCann & Marquis said we wanted to be top of the table within the week (towards the end of September possibly?) Could it be that there was a complacency within the squad and thinking the results would continue to take care of themselves?

Incidently for us to be on gm target of two points per game we have to win the next 9 games.

People are acting as if we've lost the last 10 and not the last three... all teams will have shit runs. It's about where you finish, not where you are in November, isn't it?

The table teels the real story redj and even the manager sets a target of two points a game for promotion aims. It was clear at the start of the season we did not improve the squad so we were either going to stand still or be on the slide. I will say though Herbie Kane was a good addition but not Will's not for me anyway but I do appreciate people will have different views. Some people will be happy if the club stands still, me I like to see success but will still support the club no matter what.

It’s not, it is a worry though that we’ve won one game out of the last 7 and that was a fortunate victory.
We’ve lost 5 of that 7 too, it’s a poor run of form whatever way you look at it, if we don’t beat Wimbledon who look to be the worst side in the league then we could be looking at a struggle

We’ve also had some very unfortunate losses in that run!

Unfortunate losses could last be down to not taking the multiple chances we have had in games and why haven't we taken the chances, because other than JM we don't have a proven goal scoreer to help him.

How many teams have multiple "proven goalscorers"? Its a luxury that 95% of teams do not have. Wilks, Blair and May all have 3-5 goals this season too, we could probably do with another attacker in January but teams in L1 are fortunate if they have one striker as potent in front of goal as John, nevermind two.

TBF, one of our problems has been the number of really good scoring chances that Marquis has missed as well.
It started against Fleetwood and he has become a bit of a barn door billy since then.

We are in 10th place at the moment. We have won 7 games which is eighth equal. We have lost 6 which is the worst in the top 10.
We have scored 25 goals which seventh best in the top 10.
We have conceded 24 goals which is the worst in the top 10.
We all know we should have scored more but could have conceded more.

In the first 10 games we scored 18 and conceded 9.
In the next seven we have fallen off the cliff. Scoring 7 and conceding 15.
So we haven’t got multiple good strikers neither have we got multiple good defenders / midfield players.

Although this Saturday is a Cup game, GM and his staff must ensure they get the best out of the players he’s got and win the game and stop the decline in form.
