That happens at most grounds I think. I don’t smoke but I’ve seeb it a lot. Mind you, I go in a lot of pubs where it happens as well!

Good heavens I will be polite .. I was to the left of that goal and in the back row but instantly thought No Pen. I thought when he gave it .. Typical decision the big boys get !

However I have just seen it for the first time on Telly and apart from me being right from 50 yards at a 45 degree angle and through 30 Rows of people , I just have to ask how the Ref did NOT see it was such a non Penalty.

Sterling looked a bit sheepish when the pen was given but if he had considered for just a second or two about telling the ref that it wasn’t a pen, he appeared to be overruled by his team mates.
On BBC breakfast news this morning it was suggested that even if Sterling had gone to the ref and said it wasn’t a pen, that the ref would have stuck with his decision.

City though could have done the decent thing and either rolled the pen straight to the keeper or shot wide on purpose.
It has been done before.

He kicked the turf which made him fall over. The ref gave it straight away and I don't think that Sterling eve appealed.
Fair enough he could have asked the ref to have a second look or chat with his Lino.

He didn't cheat, he fell over. And he looked very sheepish after the penalty was awarded. And he acknowledged it was a daft decision after the game.

Yes that was a stand out moment for sure - probably because they are so rare. I am sure I read somewhere that the Ref still gave the Penalty

Paulo Di Canio catching the Ball with the opposition Goalkeeper injured when he (Paulo) could have scored was another.

I could have included our Goal gifted back to Bury after the Forrester goal but that was too contrived and too slow to fit in with the two above. Other Teams have gifted goals back in the past as well of course after contentious decisions

Those 2 incidents "shame" the vast majority of Players these days who routinely cheat as part of the job they do for a living .

Nowt on earth it seems - as they seem to just look blank when anything happens of a contentious nature or more correctly I suppose anything that may mean THEY have to decide "something"

I try not to repeat this too often but why not just do away with them and use one of them to make a Ref in each half of the Pitch. In that way you would not have a fairly fit 30 or 40 something person "chasing up and down " an entire Pitch keeping in touch with very fit and very fast (in most cases) young Pro Footy Players

If there was a Ref in each half the other night he could have been even more handily placed to spot Raheems "toe stub"

He did and according to David Seaman the ref claimed he didn't hear Fowler saying he wasn't touched, which is evidently a lie. A classic case of a ref being as bright as the worst Traffic Warden in sticking to their decision and then lying about the circumstances.
