Very very difficult question. With Jones getting a Contract does it mean one of the other 2 are moving on ?

If "yes" then it seems unlikely (logically speaking) that we would then sign another Keeper - to replace lets face it one of IL or MM who we are split about 50 50 on here as to which is best - and we would not get rid of LJ surely having just extended his Contract

(I know what I mean) I wont vote till I have a plausible thought

Clearly it depends how much money they want but we've got to be realistic that in our division most keepers will have off days. Lawlor has been very good recently and Marko was good when it was his turn he just started to lose a bit of form, meaning he got dropped which is the beauty of having 2 good keepers.

We're lucky to not be in a position where our second keeper comes in and we've never seen them play!

If they want reasonable money I'd offer them both new deals because they are both good and are young enough to improve too.

I believe Marosi is better than Lawlor at the moment and would be playing him, but I like them both.

The situation hasn't changed for me. I still prefer Marosi, marginally because he's more mobile around his box and he can catch.

Lawlor is probably better with distribution and possibly has better reach when diving, yet he doesn't use that advantage to command his 6 yard box.

For now, keep them both and hope they improve.

Pretty pointless poll think both keepers have won us more points than lost and both deserve a new deal no question, been years since we’ve had two good keepers rather than dependant on one good goalie with a an average back up

I'd keep both. The big question is whether they'll both want to stay. I suppose it'll depend which division we're in & which other players stay or leave.
Marko in particular may not want to stay & be No. 2.  He's our 2nd longest serving player, let's not forget.

They are both 7 and sometimes 8 out of 10 keepers. You do wonder whether we need to move up a notch really, especially looking to Championship.

Lawlor for me but think we are in the best position we have been for a long time where we have two good keepers and they are contracted compared to when we had to rely on loan deals. Both of them would get in most league one teams and still young in goalkeeping terms so they can both improve a lot as well.

They BOTH should improve as you say and maybe one will improve / learn more and make himself THE Keeper in the future

I think they could both leave when their contracts run out which is another reason why Louis Jones has been offered and signed a new contract. Not many league one clubs have 3 senior goalkeepers on their books. I’m not saying that they should leave it’s just my opinion

Easy one this....
I would say “ eh Lawlor , you are in goal until you concede 10 or more goals beginning on the next game,...then it’s Marosi’s turn...so try and keep the goals out for as long as you can..

“ eh Marosi,...once Lawlor has conceded more than 10 goals, you will get your chance....same rules apply “

Whoever stays in goal the longest can have a new 2 year contract, the other ...a 1 year contract

Would that be cruel ?

It would be a bit simplistic and silly.

Let’s say we get drawn away in the cup at Man City, what if we have a couple of serious injuries or sending offs in the defence, the keeper plays a blinder but still concedes, yet he’s “rotated” out of the team for reasons outside his control and gets a lesser contract offer......

I’m sure our Manager has a better way of making decisions on who he plays in goal.

They’re both decent young keepers imho. Keep and develop further.

I think Lawlor has made some brilliant saves this season. When he comes out he does try to punch, but usually gets the ball a very good distance away. He doesn't 'command his area' but I don't really know what that means.

McCann uses a 'hybrid' zonal and man-marking system at corners and crosses. The big guys stand on the 6 yard line or equivalent and zonal mark, and anyone within or just outside the box is man-marked. It has vastly vastly improved our defence from Fergie's time when we always looked rubbish at corners. Clearly the impetus under McCann's system is for the big guys to head the ball away, not for Lawlor to come flapping at every cross.

Guess my good is just a bit bad....lol

Yes, it's a fair observation however, it appears to be a compromise to make up for Lawkor:s weakness in not being comfortable outside his 6 yard box. If he was stronger then I suspect they would line up a further 5 yards out.

He's admitted apparently, he should have come for the ball on Saturday, yet his first movement was back towards the line, which suggests he hasn't got the natural instinct to come and claim the ball.

For me, if the coaches encourage him and he practices it in training, but fails to improve, then you have to question whether you persevere with him or seek a replacement longer term.

In his time with us, Marosi has been very patient. You can understand any keeper who is a constant understudy and at some point he'll want regular football. Its a relatively short career.

I think he deserves another chance before his contract runs out. The only thing he did wrong was make a slight error of judgement and got sent off.

Was Lawlor's error also a judgement one?

Anyway, it's a decision McCann will have to make, unless Marosi makes it for him.

Marosi has done ok but Lawlor has the better raw attributes imo.

However, I would say neither are top keepers just ok.  There are probably better around.

Lawlor has better ball control than many of our recent defenders.

So many possibilities here. With Jones getting a contract I suspect he's targetted for being number 2 keeper next season, though there is the u23 side that is being developed more seriously, so it could also be that he's simply booked his slot there and will remain as 3rd choice keeper.

Marosi and Lawlor are young and both susceptable to confidence issues whilst they are developing, as well as either could fade or one bloom, and there is a big positive in having them push each other for the number 1 spot, so there is good reason to keep both on with 1 or 2 year contracts. On the other hand, by the end of this season it might be clear enough that one or the other is the right man for the job full time, or one may want to leave as suggested above.

I can also see us letting both go and getting in a more experienced keeper with Jones as back up.

I think that covers everything
