The FA released money spent on agent fees for the season today (or more accurately, from Feb 1st 2018 until January 31st 2019):

They don’t represent any advantage as to League positioning or out come . Looks like Luton got good value for money and Sunderland are just hoping it still maybe .

I reckon we've overpaid by £88,753.

Sunderland's bill is mad. I've not looked into it but even if they've brought in as many a 15 players that's still almost £200k agent fees per player. Which is probably more than the record transfer fee paid by several clubs in this division.

They probably paid agents to move expensive flops on rather than bring in players. It’s a stupid amount of money but we don’t know how much it reduced their wage bill.

True, that’s a fair point I’d not considered. I’d assume that buying clubs normally pay agents fees but they’d have been desperate to sell several players so it wouldn’t surprise me if they’ve covered the fees.

Since1969: I’m surprised the amount paid by any club but in our case if this amount gets you Kane Wilks Downing etc then it’s been an investment rather than an over head .

There is a slight reflection to the league table to be fair.

I don’t think it’s comprable to “normal industry” though. I’ve used recruitment agents before to find me talent and I’ll happily pay their agent fees for that as they’re doing something I couldn’t necessarily do myself. Football agents are just negotiating the best deal for heir clients - really the fees should come out of the players’ pocket rather than the club.

They are also used to get rid of players and no doubt take a wage to get their players to sign new deals.

Re-signing an existing player on new terms still incurs agent fees as well.

Unfortunately you have to deal with agents whether you like it or not .

Players sign agreements with their agent which stipulates that they are not only the first point of contact but they are also to negotiate the process all the way , with their client's input too I'd imagine .

It's unavoidable I'm afraid , the fact we have paid these locusts nearly half a million quid will never sit right with me .

To be honest I think Rovers come out of this pretty well with what you've spent compared to us .

In the list posted by DVR, five of the top six are in the top seven clubs in the league table.

How is it different at our level? Whatever level you’re at, the agent is still trying to get the highest wedge for their client.

It’s about time they capped the fees a third party can earn from a transfer deal. Agents are the most corrupt people in football. They inflate prices and purposely unsettle players at clubs to engineer moves.
