Next Saturday could be
« on April 07, 2019, 04:16:43 pm by deebee »
A defining moment of the season, with the following games being played.
Charlton v Luton
Blackpool v Peterborough
Sunderland v Coventry
If we beat Plymouth could be job done early.

sadly nothing can be sorted next week, potentially 8 points clear with 4 or 5 games still to play for posh?

Nothing will be decided next Saturday. If we win then we can treat the Sunderland game as a bonus game in the sense that we can go there without pressure to get a result, almost a bonus game.
We need 6 more points imo but you never can tell.
It will take something for Peterborough to get more than 11 points with their fixtures.

When is Sunderland's game at Peterborough?

If they're already top two confirmed by then, it might theoretically help Peterborough.

I am just hoping we can seal the deal before we play Coventry in the final game. Don’t think i can take another final day drama.

Coventry just drawn today.
Surely Blackpool and Coventry are all but out of it now as they would need to win all 5 left to get 73 points.
It’s US or POSH almost definite. My money’s on us as GM is our manager and they have DF

Nothing will be decided next Saturday.

If we win and take our goal difference into account, it could well be decided. I just hope both Whiteman and Kane are back in the midfield.

Maybe not mathematically done and dusted but it could certainly knock a couple out of the running psychologically.

Should still be a very competitive game by that point as I doubt anything will be sealed.

Thought it was their game in hand for some reason - it just shows how much notice I take of the fixture list!

Rigo you were sort of half right when portsmouth played Sundayland at Wembley both Burton & Peterborough didn't play

you just picked the wrong team for their game in hand & I trusted you  :suicide:

yes it was a game in hand against one of the teams playing at Wembley.!!!

I think Burton deserve a mention again  since they beat Barnsley 3-1 yesterday   -
think we should all want Sunderland to beat Burton on Wednesday Burton haven't hurdles in front of them in their matches -- more like Grand National FENCES - and they jumped the Barnsley Fence quite easily.

BST isn’t ruling anything out either, he’s purely talking about the likeliest possible outcome.

oh yes he is i posted this before last saturdays matches when Luton beat Rovers and Burton came from 0-2 to beat Accrington 5-2 . Burton F.C. hadn't the word "five" in their vocabularily til after the match (excluding the Man city match)
I was feeling pretty stupid when the score was 0-2 !!!

this is what i posted

"as i have consistently posted I am not all that worried about Luton -- for reasons stated as for coventry a threat there is one team we all underestimate Burton
i simple terms coventry won at peterbrew   then Burton won at Coventry was it last saturday -- i would be more afraid of them as play off contenders -- yes they do bore you to death  but they need to be considered remember they made the last 4 of the league cup or whatever it is called ."

on paper if Burton win their game in hand they are only one point behind the Coventry & Blackpool   so they are on the up as the results show - (and i expect Accrington to get relegated after losing 5-2 from 0-2 they are in freefall and moaning on the way down )

the only trouble is i did not know who Burton had to play nice easy run in

Barnsley home- Sunderland away - Scunthorpe away - Portsmouth home --southend away -- Luton home -- Peterborough away

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/burton-albion/scores-fixtures/2019-04

if they can win all those they deserve to go up  ...  shame they don't get a full house by playing Charlton :suicide:

Two wins I reckon will be enough. Just don't think Peterborough are that good.  Just my thought though, we will see how it ends.

Sunderland could still be in with a chance to win the title when they Peterborough , at the minute they are 8 points behind Luton with 2 games in hand

A win and a draw will be enough. But I expect us to get 7-8 points and secure third place by 3-5 points.

OK, let me come at it from another angle - who do you think will get more than 69pts?
I fully appreciate it's not over until its mathematically not possible, but, come on, why spoil the fun? Anyway, we havn't won our game yet, which is why I said if we win on Saturday....

 ;)

Ok let’s look at next Saturday..

Lots of “ifs” of course, but:

If Blackpool don’t beat Peterborough they can only reach 71 points (70 if they lose).

Coventry the same vs Sunderland.

If Burton don’t beat Sunderland midweek, they can only get to 72/71, same for Fleetwood playing Barnsley on Saturday.

Realistically, barring several big scores, with our goal difference teams need to get to 73 points to beat us - assuming of course we can get 6 more..

Two wins may therefore be enough to put those 4 clubs out of the equation, and would leave Peterborough needing to win 4 out of 6 with opponents to come including Blackpool, Fleetwood, Sunderland and Portsmouth..

Then there are more complications with Fleetwood playing Blackpool over Easter for example.

Yes, we need to win games, but should we beat Plymouth then by 5pm on Saturday the competition for 6th place could be down to us and Posh.

That is a lot of conjecture but not impossible.

And to keep things simple, we help ourselves big style by winning.!

It is looking better for us now we’ve got back to winning ways. It’s still in our hands and other teams seem to have difficulty in getting back to back wins . Keeping good form as well as getting quality players back from injury bodes well for a good playoff and possible final .

Rigo it would take an amazing set of results for Oxford to get relegated. They are but for the maths now safe.
So many teams below them and they have a substantial cushion in points.

Best result would be a draw keeps Burton away from play offs and keeps Sunderland and Barnsley close to each other
