This could be a great game for Wilks if he fancies it, watching the highlights from the 4-5 their defence didn't enjoy having to deal with quick, incisive runs into the heart of their ranks and Wilks loves to do that.

Just watched the extended highlights from the home game they couldn’t handle Wilks pace and strength and he has only got better, we had so many more clear cut chances just hope we can put them away.

Hopefully we can get a few of them on some early bookings

Unfortunately with Woolmer as Ref we will probably get the Yellow Cards for having the "nerve" to be clattered by getting in the way of superior Sunderland Players

He is appalling - dont take my word for it search Rate The Ref

That sounds much better news about Whiteman.

Getting revved-up about this game now! If we play to our strengths we can give them a real scare. A similar performance to the one at Oakwell but with a little more luck and we'll get a result.

Word of warning for anyone coming from or returning to Newcastle - the Metro is closed between 2 stops in the middle of the line so getting there would mean getting off and onto a replacement bus, then back onto the Metro. Will likely add at least half an hour. There are trains that run between the 2 which look the quickest/safest bet but they are only once an hour.

Obviously a very difficult game this one..And I agree results earlier might effect our mind set..If Posh lose at Fleetwood it will give us the freedom of a free hit and we can have a real go at them..If Posh win we will naturally be a lot more cautious and that could spell trouble..

They had a lot of trouble at the Coventry game, and sad tales of Kids been hit with bottles thrown from above so I hope we can all behave and enjoy the day regardless..

I would be delighted with a point out of this one,our away form has been poor and if we are honest we didn't deserve the one we have got this year at Bradford..First goal is always vital but here more so,there crowd have turned on them a bit when things go wrong at home recently and we need to make that happen again..If we concede first and they are cheered on by 36k it may be a tough afternoon..

The big thing in our favour is those two bad results at home mean they really have to win a draw doesn't help them..

There’s history between Sunderland and Coventry if I remember correctly.

Last day of the season some years ago, Sunderland were in a relegation battle with Coventry and another team who they just happened to be playing that day - one of the 3 would be relegated.
The Coventry game was held up for some concocted reason which meant that Sunderland’s game finished on time and there was still quite a bit of time left at Coventry.

The Sunderland score was announced over the tannoy which meant that if Coventry and their opposition drew, they would both be safe and Sunderland would be relegated - Either winning would send the other down.

Needless to say, they both passed the ball around midfield with no tackles or attacking intent for the remainder of the game to ensure they drew and Sunderland went down.

It was 1977 Stockton. Due to big crowds at the turnstiles it was delayed by about 15 minutes I think. I think Coventry played Bristol City that night and they both finished a point above Sunderland who went down by a point. There were a lot of Sunderland fans when we went to Pontins a month later. They were still angry then.

The Fell Hand of Jimmy Hill at work there. He was Coventry chairman and asked the PA man to broadcast the Sunderland full time score.

If you want a laugh, take a look at this guy doing a Sunderland preview on YouTube:

https://youtu.be/o-_zsn1Tox0

He's going to be presently surprised, come Friday tea time, as he has our line-up wrong. Keeper and back 4 ok, then it all goes Pete tong and he's hoping Marquis is not fit!

If only their manager was as switched on as this guy!

 ;)

Alan, that is funny, but you cannot criticise the fans commitment to their teams in the North East, they are fanatical, and tribal.
Proper fans who have had good and bad times, but any sign of success and they are there in their thousands, and that is one thing our team will have to overcome on Friday.
Like the game at Barnsley we are going to be outnumbered, and by an even larger number of fans.
our team needs to feed off their unease, unsettle their collective which can soon transfer to their team on the field, as we have done in the past such as the final against Leeds and at Hillsborough, and against the Forest in the past.
In all those games the expectation of the oppositions fans got on top of their team, and our smaller band of fans rose to the occasion, something we will have to do again, and let the team know we are with them all the way.
The one thing I and we must believe is that we are capable of overcoming the odds, and they have lots of players that are used to failure, the likes of Catermole decent player as he might be has only tasted failure over recent years, a burden that lies heavy on their teams shoulders.
If we play well, I fancy us to get a result, and after our game at the Keepmoat they know we can play and that they have to be at their best to get a result.

A1 is constant queuing with sheer weight of traffic. Coming off onto A19 soon to see if it's any clearer

We always used the A19 when we worked in the area. That was 1970/80s though.

Leaving Bradford about 1 so will join A1 near Knaresborough and hopefully a steady run. Could join topside of Ripon but no good at this time of day.

We’ve been second best again to everything , no aggression in the final third and passes falling short too many times . We have too many players who can’t step up their game when it matters . The playoffs will be short lived if we don’t start showing that we can play away from home against teams who know how to win games . Marquis today has barely had any decent service . L1 next season beckons  .

Lack of know-how and desire. All too easy for Sunderland.

On that display, we are nowhere near.

So frustrating watching some players stop running for balls that end up going out which they could have kept in.

Reminded me too much of our game against palace, but at least they were a premiership side. Really disappointed that we never looked like at least testing their keeper. We need to improve IF we make the play-offs but on todays showing we are a few quality players away from a championship team.

Yes Sunderland were far better. Yes the ref was shit. What I can't take is not even getting close to the oppos work rate and effort. Very poor. McCann needs to find a way of playing away from home.

We beat Bradford away, but we were arguably worse then than today and got lucky with the opposition.

We had three shots on target and two corners all game today. Not going to get anything unless we threaten the goal. Presume one of those three on target was the Andrew free kick as well.
