I’m not sure our average was 8,200 last season in terms of actual numbers in the ground. I wonder if they’ve altered the method of calculating the gate, or whether we’ve just got less STH’s this season?

Season ticket holders are all counted as part of the gate. How can they alter the method of calculating the gate? Would completely distort the true figure and Her Majesty’s Customs & Exercise would be knocking on the door.

I'm not saying they have, but I'm not sure whether all clubs count tickets sold or actual bums on seats. SM might know more over which they are obliged to declare publicly, or if it can be either. I doubt HMRC are arsed about what "official attendance" they tweet out or put in the match report, as long as all income is declared.

Like you, I'd guess that most clubs (if not all) use the method of counting the number of tickets sold, but I'm not sure if that's regulation. I'm not intimating there's some sort of scandal happening.

My point was that the ground has looked fuller this season to me vs last season in terms of home fans, but the official attendance is lower. So perhaps my eyes are letting me down and I'm talking rubbish, or the attendance is being calculated by people in the ground rather than tickets sold. Either that or other factors have come into play such as a drop in the average away following or something else.

Rigo of course it could be worse but the point is it should be better.
Look at the population of the towns of Most of the league 1 clubs.
Only Bristol (2 clubs though), Bradford & Coventry have a greater population, although i accept Sunderland, Charlton, Portsmouth & Plymouth all have larger catchment areas to get their support.
I just am frustrated that our fan base isn’t growing as fast as it should be considering all the initiatives that take place to get youngsters coming to the matches.
What more could the club do? I know they are trying that’s for sure.

Very obviously we didn’t play well in the first half against Accrington but our support was f***ing shit (as the chant goes, with a twist).
In the South Stand I only heard one rendition of the “we’ve got McCann” song and nothing else.
I did hear lots of catcalling of our players and people making loud derogatory comments about individual players.
The nervousness of the crowd transmitted itself to the players and probably made things worse for them.
The booing at half time was (to me anyway) very predictable.

I can’t imagine that many clubs have so called supporters who get onto the backs of players as quickly as our lot do.

Some of our so called support is shocking. I think some only go to have a good moan
As for booing, nobody should ever boo their own players unless they are not trying. That was certainly not the case last night. Don’t know what the word support means.
Our gate last night was disappointing as well. School holidays nice evening and only 7000 home fans turn up when we are in a play off position. Only lost 2 home games in the league ( before last night )
Played some great football this season. 5th highest scorers in the league.
Barnsley are averaging 4800 more than us this season. Doncaster’s MBC population is 25% greater than Barnsley’s. Doncaster is a more affluent town than Barnsley.
What is this malaise the Doncaster public have that they won’t get off their backsides to support their local team.
The potential is there because 27.000 went to Wembley. Why will they not turn up in greater numbers for league games is something i have never managed to fathom out.

Barnsley get better crowds because historically they’re a bigger club.

They have spent more years in the 2nd tier. In fact they have spent more years in the 2nd tier than any other club. If that makes them a bigger club then yes they are.
Still does not explain why clubs who are not bigger than us get better gates. Look at Lincoln City ave 8.968 this season.
Yes i know they are on a crest of a wave so to speak but we averaged 6.900 in 2003/04 when we did what Lincoln have just achieved.

Prez i am well aware a great many support Leeds but i think you will find a considerable number in Barnsley support Leeds also and Sheffield Wednesday.
It still does not explain why we are not getting better gates than we are at present.
Our ave gate is 7.800 this season with 1 game to go, playing exciting attacking football and we are also 6th in the league and have looked a play off contender all season.
Last season we never looked remotely likely to gate crash the play offs playing turgid football for the best part of the season and finished 15th and our average gate was 8.200

Campsall im 44 (from Norton) and ive lived in the area all my life. The girlfriend who i have been seeing for a year is from Rossington. The amount of people in Rossington who support Leeds is unreal. Her family does, my step daughter says all the kids in her class are Leeds fans, with the exception of one SWFC fan. Ive played sunday football, play regular poker venues mixed with a lot of social groups and its always the same. Far more support Leeds than Rovers. They may not attend the games but obviously they dont watch rovers. I used to be a courier and there were far more Leeds car stickers than Rovers. its a disgrace and it saddens me.

I think the club off the field have been excellent in recent years trying to drum up support in local schools etc but as the saying goes you can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink it.

Our support has grown immensely from the 90s when you could stand on the popside and have a space all to yourself. Our crowds were about 2.5K. Thats a big positive, but for the size of the borough (about 300.000) its not great, due to the reasons i have just gave.

Nonsense, yes your boss would pull you to one side and follow the appropriate procedures. I'm pretty sure no boss or managment would stand there verbally abusing/attacking you every time you make a mistake.
Also likewise if you worked in a shop and the customers were doing the same they would be kicked out the shop.

Nobody should be abused consistently at work.

If players aren't putting a shift in they should expect to take some flak. They get paid enough to put up with a bit of stick.
