No great surprises there

The one big debate we have all been having with personal opinions and Polls and whatever has been decided in favour of Ian Lawlor !

GM obviously sees him as HIS Number 1 Keeper

Not much to argue with and I suspect we'd all have made similar decisions.  Some will say we need better than Butler and Andrew but Friday night proved how they can be good and would we get much better than them?  Their effort for the cause is a big asset and they know the team.

It doesn't sound too positive on Rowe he's done very well at times but really poorly at others.  I like him though and think if fit we should keep him.

The main thing is replacing the players we've lost, Wilks, Kane, Mason are big misses and need replacing.  Worth a seperate thread I think that though.

We haven't offered anywhere near the money Rowe wants so we'll see what happens with that one. The other two more likely to happen.

Rowe is 30 now, so if his demands have increased I'm sure the club will make a sensible decision. Very good player but we have other areas to strengthen as well, I'm sure McCann will prioritise.

That’s twice now McCain has been quoted saying we can’t get anywhere near their demands. Is this concerning that for players like moarsi and Rowe we can’t offer them close to what they want.

I don't think it's so much that we can't get near their demands. It's more we don't want to pay them as much as they're asking.

Like other have said, we have to strengthen elsewhere, we can't put too much wages into a 2nd keeper and midfielder that had a very up and down season.

Rowe was a top player when he got his contract his form and injuries have been poor in recent years (he's still a good player) and if he plays like he did against Charlton he'd be getting what he demanded or being bought by bigger clubs...but I'd say GM doesn't see his value for money for demands. Why spend a large percentage of your budget on w/o someome who in the last 2 seasons that hasn't consistently shown that value?

Overall I'd say it's not a budget issue but a value issue.

When you look at the release/transfer list it shows above all GM values a high work ethic.

If we sign a decent genuine right back then that solves multiple issues as Blair can move into midfield and that gives us a solid three of Whiteman, Crawford and Blair, with Copps, Marquis and Sadlier up front.

Personally would want a front player as option with huge pace and a midfielder with more solidity and bite than Crawford.

No great issues here..

The bigger matter is not selling the likes of Marquis and Whiteman..

I personally don’t think Blair is good enough to play in a midfield 3 in a team that is targeting promotion.

Rowe was offered previously when he was the first name on the team sheet. This season he's struggled to get into the team so obviously wouldn't have the same contract as he did last time. There's a difference between us not being able to afford it and not willing to pay it when we could get similar for cheaper.

I think most on here, if they had been asked to put their retained list in a sealed envelope at Christmas would have been very close to the one Grant has come up with.
The one thing we need to happen now, and what Grant has alluded to, is that the players who have been offered contracts sign, or give an indication of their going quickly. We don't want to be in a Tommy Spurr, and a couple of others, situation where it is a last minute goodbye and we are left floundering to our cost.

I would not be surprised if he stuck with Jones as No. 2. When Lawlor got injured I'm sure he kept saying when asked about a loan that he still had 2 good keepers.

You still need 2 good keepers. This year has proved that big time.

With Rowe for me he just hasn't been consistent enough to warrant breaking the bank for.He was Brilliant against Charlton but the fact remains when fit he hasn't pulled many tree's up this season.Being 30 there will be no future investment value in him..
GM and the board will decide on what they feel he's worth and if that isn't good enough for him so be it.Danny Andrews is worth a new contract and is the main priority for me.Butler is a good player and has served us well but not un replaceable by any means..So again its up to him..

McCann said we are going to have a stronger squad next season that means the players he will bring in should be better.
Marko has a value to our club and he wanted more. The better keeper we bring in May want more but if GM believes he’s better then we will pay it.
I would like to keep Tommy, Andy and Danny but again they will have a value. Replacing Tommy and Danny may cost a lot more. Andy may not be a first team regular next season, if we sign a CH who is left footed but the player will have to be better.
Priorities is to keep John and Ben and sign replacements for Kane and Wilks and
and a good right back. We will still need 1 more midfield player and 1 more forward player plus a second right back.

Rowe isn't worth an increased deal end of. Overall, he hasn't proven he is. I think it was time for him to move on anyway. He was always one under Fergie who got picked irrespective of his form, which was very inconsistent. Even when fit, he hasn't been able to walk straight back into the team.

Whatever opinion you have in Tommy the manager and club will decide. Last season GM said he wanted 6 midfield players for the central role so we have Whiteman and Crawford, to have a stronger midfield we will need 3/4 more if Blair is counted in there. So what ever Tommy is asking if we are to get better we will probably have to match it to improve and make the midfield stronger. None of the U23 orU18 players will make the midfield stronger they will need this year at least.

One thing Matty Blair has improved in this season is his tackling. He’s been getting stuck in and doing well. So there’s that, IMO.

Im not convinced,I've a feeling,it might have been because,Lawlor/his agent maybe have accepted a lower contract, especially with him injured for the rest of the season at the time,Marosi/his agent not wanting to do that, and I for one hope we bring another keeper in.

I think Tommy has proved his worth towards the back end of the season. Let’s not forget he spent a large portion injured. He is also a leader which is invaluable, I hope to see him sign a new deal.
