I have never seen a striker miss so many chances as John marquis, shhhh don’t tell portsmouth
I bet they didn’t know he scores most of his goals early on and takes the last month of the season off .

I would hope there is a sell on and/or promotion clause in the deal
There is

You know this how - just asking?

Would you ask SM? Just asking

SM didn't say it - you did.  So just asking a question as you said it with such authority...

Basically no different as if SM had said it

Christ all mysterious aren't you?...............so I'm guessing you know nowt then
If that makes you happy to think that I really don’t care

Describing me as a moaner emphasises this point even more so.
I’ve spent most of the last 5 years being described as a happy clapper

Maybe ya should reinvent yourself.....because you do moan constantly...

oh to answer your other comment about May and Wright being unable to play....

Why would I want to know who should replace them?
I’m sure the professionals have that covered...

And I’ve had a season ticket since 96 when I left the service, but did a few years 3 1/2 ) in the Middle East recently so wasn’t able to get one

I’d say that qualifies me as a fan....but I seldom moan about the team , the manager or the board!

I’m just grateful to be a supporter

You must be new to the forum then.
I’m certainly not a moaner nor is Jonathan nor is drfchound, nor is roversalias, nor is filo.
But we’re all voicing concerns about the state of the squad with only 2 days to go now.
Even SM has previously stated in his opinion we need new players to strengthen the squad.

To sit there waffling on that the squad isn’t lightweight just because you think you’re amazing because you don’t moan is ridiculous

Once the Jamal Lowe (didn't train Tuesday) Portsmouth deal goes thru for £2.6 million to Wigan it's John to "Port"  :( :( :(  (not "Vale") then a striker comes here but it's a vale of secrecy who the Rovers striker will be

Well can one of the in the know posters tell us if and when we can expect some good news on incomings? And I don’t mean someone past their best like Ward with his one goal in 9 appearances last season.

All I know is that DM has targeted two players other than Ward and Baptiste before today happened and the two mentioned are seen as cover only.

Lets round it up to £2million for the Marquis transfer. How should we spend it?

Cover the annual shortfall.
Bring in 3/4 decent players, no transfer fee, just wages.
Large (for us) transfer fee for another strike.
Other?

The million plus quoted might be the headline figure. This will be the grand total with any add-ons.
It will be paid over two or three years.
The figure we get in the next month won't be anywhere near that.
I guess we might get a 500k deposit....

Let's be straight. We won't be going out and paying a million plus on a replacement. Never going to happen.

I'd also be straight on the phone to Alfie Beestin's agent and give him a year's contract. Certainly a better player that Jamie Ward.

Give a contract to Alfie I mean, not his agent.

Reporter in Portsmouth reporting the initial fee is over 1 million, rising to 2 million with add ons.

So you're a bit off with your figures.

Well he could be right about the deposit.
Just because the initial fee is £1m, doesn’t mean we will get it all upfront.

What are we trying to prove here by putting a negative slant on how we receive the money? I'm fairly sure the club has some degree of financial competency, they deal with cash in the bank and projected revenues. They can budget accordingly.

Do you lot think its a tenner in tenner out kind of job or just looking for the negative angle always?

Not at all, for my part anyway.
I was simply making a point that Rugbyrover could be correct.
A million initial fee, rising to £2m is good business however you wrap it up.

Hey Mr Angry, wind yer neck in. No negative slant in anything I posted mate. If you're reading it that way then you have a problem.

All I said was that we won't be receiving all the cash in one lump sum. I said this based on the deal Arsenal made to pay for their new £75 million striker.

I thought it might help people realise our options in the transfer market don't alter significantly overnight.

Of course it does. Any money we bid for other players can be paid, if the bid is accepted, as and when the Marquis money becomes available.

Interesting we all take for granted the money should be reinvested. Each season we are spending beyond our means by £2m and presume this is all absolutely fine. What about just one year the owners break even?

It should be reinvested. You don't run a football club to break even.
