Deluded fans
« on August 01, 2019, 10:33:36 am by Tazemma »
I believe most of our fans are not living in the real world. Our owners have been clear on the amount of investment they will make and unfortunately this means we will play at a particular level of English football. We are not a championship club or have the finances to compete at that level so to expect anything different is a pipe dream.

Given the constraints in place this means we have to be realistic when it comes to performance, players and transfers. Marquis stated he would not sign a new deal so he was sold for a fair price. We cannot afford to lose an asset for nothing.

As the board have stated, in some scenarios the structure may perform better as we did last season and give chance of promotion, but you have to accept sometimes it will not. We do not have the financial capacity to throw more money at it within the current structure. This is not a criticism, just the reality.

We have to appreciate this is a hobby for the owners and not a profit making business. Unless there is a Russian billionaire around the corner we have to be realistic and thank the owners for there loyalty and contribution. Without them we don’t have a club.

Nobody is lining up to buy the club and invest millions so why criticise the people in place at the minute. We all have to live within a budget and ours unfortunately is not as big as some will like. I appreciate this would bring frustration to some but some clubs are bigger than others and will always rise to the top.

A few points on this pre season
1. Marquis would not sign a new deal. Had to be sold.
2. Downing offered more money and a longer contract elsewhere.
3. Wilks - was never going to turn down a 4 year deal.
4. Marosi - same as wilks.
5. Kane - was never going to stay.
6. Butler - disappointing but it happens
7. Andrew - will we ever know the truth? Money, location?

If people could not see that the club would lise a substantial part of the team from last season they must have been in hiding. It was always going to happen. There was always going to be a rebuilding job regardless of the league we were in. It’s unfortunate that we had a change of manager which has hindered the process but let’s be patient. In 90% of cases they make the right decision.

I think people are just disappointed with how pre season has gone, once we sign a couple of decent players People’s opinions will change

Decent post apart from the first paragraph. The board wants Championship football and I believe we can get back there and establish ourselves.

Tazemma,

Just one point I would take issue with, you said..........

"Most of our supporters are not living in the real world"

When it comes to the Rovers I actually think that the majority of our supporters do live in the real world due mainly to our relatively recent history of nearly disappearing from the football league altogether.

I understand why you think that it is the majority because it tends to be they that shout the loudest.

What happened to the sustainable championship club within 5 years and the dons going for super league???? Not looking likely is it, you believe anything the board and it cronies say.  Look at facts.

We were a couple or penalty kicks away from being in the play off final.. performing in the final as well as we did at Charlton could have seen us in the championship now..

On the field, there is often a very fine margin between success and not.. how can the board make a difference in the penalty shoot out scenario.??

I guess you would prefer the board to have no ambition than??

Just go away and support a club like Man City or Salford that just buy success rather than work hard for it... Pathetic...

I seldom post on here these days. However, isn't Marquis an example of our business model? We sign a chap on a free, we get three good (excellent perhaps) seasons out of him and we sell him at a huge profit.

Of course we need more of these and it is a pity that someone like Liam Mandeville never kicked on with us. But there's some promise in the present crop and I can see Whiteman and Wright going for big bucks one day.

So long as the money is reinvested wisely, it's surely the way we move forward sustainably as a football club.

I wonder how many of those moaning about us selling Marquis would feel if they had bought a car three years ago, run it into the ground for three years and then sold it for a massive profit?
They would be bragging to everybody how clever they had been.
Marquis is a similar scenario in my eyes. The outcome has suited both parties except for the timing.

As a matter of interest John, why don't you post these days?

Just read your post on the forum admin generated thread where you say that abuse of other posters isn’t right.

Well the clue is in you telling him to go away and support another club then calling his post pathetic.

We do know the truth on Andrew.

He got married and went straight under the thumb. His missus wanted to be closer to her family in Manc.

:(Exactly. How far under the thumb would you have to be, eh?

"Well, I could go to Fleetwood love, but it's rubbish there"

"Do it, Danny. Do it now"

"OK dear. Whatever you say"
