Right back Haliday v Blair
« on August 17, 2019, 05:53:40 pm by Filo »
Blair for me, has the pace to get himself out of trouble, Haliday treads water when running and is caught out of position too much

On that showing, Halliday is nowhere near as effective as Blair.

Said exactly the same after today’s game. Halliday looked lost

I thought Haliday was poor today along with both Sheaf and Whiteman but I think it’s too early to be writing him off yet

Halliday hasn’t looked comfortable in any game so far this season, Blair for me.

I don't rate Blair at right back as well but give Halliday bit of time to adjust to league one before really judging. Hes a young lad who's taken a step up in division so may take longer to adapt.

End of the day, Halliday is a right back. Blair isn’t

We won today, enjoy it

I guess you didn't go to the Gillingham game then.

I was worried about Hallidays positioning for a lot of the game he seemed to think he was a CH

As much as I like Matty he’s not a fullback - Halliday hasn’t done anything wrong for me as yet so he would be my pick - Matty gives you more getting forward but ultimately a fullbacks job is to defend

I wouldn't have Blair or Crawford starting anywhere. I think Moore's made a fantastic observation there.

People are going to love Blair because he runs all day, but he can't pick out a pass to save his life.

Not many sides play with “full backs” these days, they’re mainly wing- backs. They need to be able to defend and attack.

It’s funny
I’d have them both starting

Halliday my has been done for basic pace a couple of times so he has to make up for that by being cute. Not quite there yet so he gets the benefit of doubt for now.

Yeah I’ve been to every game. That’s my opinion.

Haliday was having to cover sheaf most of the game. Wasn't his best but we won and that's what counts

I thought the bigger issue in the game was Sheaf, Whiteman, and Anderson playing too many risky sideways passes and losing the ball. That put us under a lot of pressure at least half a dozen times in the game.

Sheaf in particular was guilty of that.
He seems to be very nonchalant at times with his passing.
No doubt he will be getting told about it.

From what I've seen up to now, I'm not a fan of Halliday. I'd sooner have Blair. Ok, only 2 games in so not much to judge on. But for me he's not quick, his positional sense is not good, but worst of all is his ball distribution which at times is very poor.
Having said that, his ball distribution was not as bad as Anderson which at times today was appalling. Joe Wright can't come back quick enough for me.
Whiteman was also quilty of knocking 10 yard passes way astray today as well.
Thought John and James both played well

I would have Anderson in the team every week.
He isn’t in the team for his ball playing skills but he is a rock solid defender.

James is brilliant; I was worried when we lost Andrew but he’s been fantastic.

Opinions Hound. I thought Anderson was very poor today and I'd keep Cameron John in when Wright is fit

I’ve only seen Halliday once so far and didn’t think much of him.

If Halliday isn’t deemed good enough then fair enough, sign another RB.

Blair playing there is not the answer.

Can’t believe what I am reading on here.
We have just beaten one of the better sides in league 1 and some of you still come up with a negative thread putting down our new right back.
Yes he makes some mistakes, yes he gets caught out at times because he is obviously told to get forward as much as possible.
That’s why we have 2 holding midfielders.
He has come up a division and it will take time to adjust to a higher league and playing against better teams.
To say you think Matty Blair is better in that position just shows how little imo some of you understand what you are watching.
We have now got 2 very good full backs and James for me is a big improvement on Andrew. Better tackler, quicker and better passer.
Only thing Andrew has that is better is his ability on set pieces.

Give him 10-15 games to get into it. I've seen some good some bad, but enough to make me think he will get better
