What happened to Belle Vue?
« on August 23, 2019, 07:30:27 am by Imissbellevue »
Sorry if this has been posted before. Driving by the racecourse and explaining to my son the site of Belle Vue. It got me wondering does anyone know what happened to the turnstiles and floodlights etc? Does anyone have anything from the old ground?

I think the dug-outs went to Retford Utd.

I think the extendable tunnel (used on the away tunnel) went to Retford too.

I remember reading that a Rovers fan in London had a couple of seats from the Main Stand in his garden

I think part of the Rosso terrace has been preserved. Saw some photos recently.

On a similar note I believe that the ground Arsenal played at before Highbury still has some of the terracing remaining at the bottom of the gardens of a row of terraces in London.

Fairly sure that there was an auction of the seats along with many other items from the ground. I seem to recollect having the auction brochure amongst my programme collection.

When  the pitch was sold off a mate of mine paid out extra for the centre spot. Apparently he was the 87th person to buy one.

Your mate was duped.

Me and my 6 pals got a penalty spot each.

Didn’t Paul Daniels ‘buy’ the whole centre circle  of the Belle Vue pitch in the 80’s?

Not quite... Arsenal played at the Manor Ground in Plumstead (South East London) before moving north to Highbury in 1913. However, for three years in the late 1800s they played at a different ground in Plumstead, The Invicta Ground. It's this one from which a few steps of terracing still remain, in the back gardens of a row of houses in Hector Street.

I think some of it still exists in the back gardens of the houses on Rovers Way. I tried to get a look when I was up in May, but couldn't quite see over the fences.

I stand corrected. Would be an interesting feature to have at the bottom of the garden.

Highbury Pitch is still there on the new apartment blocks that were built - as is the front of the old stadium - I passed it a few years ago when I went to a BT tournamount and had a quick peek in, looked brilliant to be fair.

Can't believe this only got three 'likes'... deserved so much more. I've laughed at it again each time I've opened this thread.
