Yet another big defeat
« on October 13, 2019, 06:06:03 pm by Danensian »
The Belles have suffered yet another big defeat, this time 6-1 away to Bolton Wanderers Ladies. This follows 7-2 defeats by Wolves away and Lincoln at hone with a 4-2 defeat in the Cup sandwiched between them. In none of these games has the scoreline reflected the play. From box to box the Belles have largely held their own. But in defence, apart from the keeper Kirsty Johnson, and in front of the opposition goal performances have been woeful. The fact is that the current crop of players, though willing, is not good enough. It is not that they aren't trying. It is just that they are too young and inexperienced. Having just suffered two relegations following the withdrawal of support by the Lygos (without which the club would not have been able to operate at WSL level if at all) it would be regrettable if, in the 50th year since their founding, the Belles were to suffer relegation again. Now that they have been taken over by Club Doncaster it is imperative that urgent measures be put in hand to strengthen the playing staff and support the coaching staff. At the very least a core of more experienced players is needed to bolster the very willing efforts of the current crop of young players. With the season halfway through the need for action is urgent.
