Pleaded not guilty today. How does he think he'll get away with it? Surely there will be cameras that caught the whole thing. And the state of Stendel afterwards

He'll have a very expensive legal team with a plethora of ways to keep him out of prison

If OJ Simpson could get away with murder I'm sure thug Barton can get away with  assault.

The US legal system is a lot different to ours. Barton won't get away with it.

Reading the press reports from yesterday, the nature of the alleged assault is different to that which I recall from the time of the incident.
I thought I'd read that Barton was alleged to have punched or head-butted Stendel in the face?
The reports now say he is alleged to have pushed Stendel from behind, causing him to bash his face into the metal surround of the tunnel.
Maybe I'm mis-remembering the initial reports.

But I can see now how Barton might think he can wriggle his way out of this with the help of a good lawyer.

I think you're right, I remember it being widely reported as a head butt

Also dont forget there was the Tweet from Barnsley player that was taking down pretty quickly - but it only said Stendel had blood pouring from his mouth / face and not how that was caused

Things were obviously misreported at the time.

Probably Nothing more than allowing the victims family compensation, because IF OJ did'nt do it,he must know who did and wont say.

I watched a very interesting documentary,in which the presenter made a very convincing case to claim,OJ's son killed them and OJ was prepared to take the rap to protect him.

....also different criteria apply for burden of proof

Beyond reasonable doubt for the Criminal Trial v Balance of Probability for a Civil Case - usually does it

If he was taking the rap to protect someone else he'd have pled guilty, surely?

No,the documentary maker(not me),believes OJ knew his son had done it,but the authorities believed OJ done it,OJ could have given evidence to clear his name, but refused to because it would convict his son of it.So OJ went through it all prepared to take the rap for it,if they found him guilty. He also says, thats why there was very little,if none evidence to prove without doubt OJ did it,because he did'nt.It was presented very convincingly, but It is television and I realise it can powerful tool.I have no idea of the truth, but it was a very intriguing theory.

I’m no big Barton fan but it does annoy me that some people have taken it as a given he’s guilty
I don’t suppose that those people have actually considered he just may be innocent
Before I’m shot down in flames I’M NOT saying he’s an angel but there is always 2 sides to every story.

Okay, so give me an example of why he'd be permitted to bloody Stendels face and try to run off? Just in the interest of healthy debate

If he Barton was innocent then why did his people cover him from the cameras and usher him away and almost run someone over doing so. Find him guilty and if no jail sentence then give him community service to be affected on a match day

Maybe someone can point me in the direction of a picture of Stengel injured
I haven’t seen one

Why would you have? Why would any evidence be in the public domain.?

Just because you haven’t seen evidence, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen..

Why not let the courts do their job.?

Agreed and just because people don’t like him doesn’t mean he’s guilty
If he is I hope he goes to prison but let’s be objective
