Just read Coventry have put in a 6 figure bid for Sheaf. Not sure if he’s ready for Championship football yet tbh.

Be a tough ask but if he is ready mentally then no reason why he can’t do it would have been a good replacement for Ben whiteman. Good luck to him

I do think he's good enough to play in the Championship, might take him a little time to adapt as it does a lot ofcplahers to that level but he can do it, would be a good move for him that.

Agree. He's got the technical ability. Might take a few games but should be a long term quality signing wherever he ends up playing and would be a good Walsh replacement for them.

If it was an affordable price then I'd definitely want us to put a bid in as he'd definitely grow in value but I doubt we'd be able to afford it in today's climate. Definitely the kind of signing we should be making though.

He wasn't one for going for the easy option, hence the occasional wayward pass, reminiscent of Brian Stock.

Correct, and it's also because he tries more "key" passes than most others. His passing stats are all good, some in the top five for the entire league, and that is because Ben Sheaf tries to make things happen going forward so when it doesn't come off it looks worse and feels like a bigger disappointment for fans.

If he irons that out of his game he will be a phenomenal midfielder.

Sheaf looks great playing next to Big Ben imo. Like Wilks I feel he needs another season in league 1 . Just my opinion of course and I do rate the lad 👍

Think 900k seems to much on current ability and if we were paying late I would say we had been robbed 500k would be about right however his potential with the right team and coaches could make him a multi million pound player

It would be bad timing for us.  There are plenty of players available on free transfers or already out of contract and for loans.  To shell out the best part of a million quid on a player when we are making staff redundant, ain’t going to happen, and rightly so.

  Coventry are well known in the football world for bringing through their own players ( one of  the top teams for academy players making it through to the first team) and have an excellent manager and player recognition system.
  They have seen something in Ben while playing for us that they think an offer should be made to bring him in and give them value for money and no doubt in the future added value.

I wouldn't even know what is a true value these days taking everything into consideration. The point is, Coventry have obviously done their homework and have assessed what it will take for Arsenal to release him. They clearly think it's a sound investment.

I wish more people would give him the credit he deserves. Playing in a key role at such a young age he's going to make mistakes, just as Whiteman did before him when developing his role. Sheaf took quite a bit of weight off Whitemans shoulders last season and at times, eclipsed his contribution. Those who say he can't pass a ball clearly don't see all the positive stuff he does. He's a good all rounder and was improving in all areas. Even his first goal was a thing of beauty!

Sheaf is an excellent footballer and has great potential. Its a pity we are not in a position to shell out that sort of money, but the reality is what it is and we can't afford to take a 900k risk (if that figure is correct).even though there may be a return further down the line.

I'm sure we'll see more of Sheaf in the future unlike some others who have faded away.

In your opinion ED, Coventry obviously don't agree and I for one am pleased for him.

I have known Ben and his family for a very long time, lovely family, great lads, both him and his 3 brothers.

I really rate Sheaf and in all honesty if the Coventry move comes off I’ll be gutted, would have loved him back at KMS. That said good luck

Don’t forget a player value isn’t just about what he has done so far, it is about potential.

Coventry would hope to recoup that value by progressing in the championship, and all the extra income they get from doing that.  Plus if Sheaf develops he could be shifted on for a healthy profit..

Ideally we would be in a position to buy for the same reasons, but at the moment we should not expect the club to be shelling out on players in this way.
