Pubs in town

I've alluded to it on an other thread, but a friend of mine runs a pub in the town centre and they were under orders from SYP not to let in or serve any Rovers supporters today, and he has been told this on several occasions over the last few years. It isn't even a pub close to the station either.

Anyone else think it is beyond a joke that supporters are not even allowed to frequent their own towns pubs when a large visiting support is expected?

When we travel in numbers, ie Rotherham, Scunny etc, it's the opposite, it's us that aren't allowed in pubs.

The answer to this is simple, and certainly won't be worded the way you have put it. But there's a general understanding between landlords and Police forces that certain pubs are allocated to away supporters. These are then advertised as such. It creates a safe drinking environment for everybody.

To suggest it's a conspiracy aimed at just us is preposterous.

Here we go. The patronising know it all out in force. Why would a pub over a mile from the station be a designated away pub?

For the record, the pub mentioned has no desire to be allocated as an away pub as you put it. He was simply told not to admit home supporters.

I have no problems in town pre or post match. We even get asked to show we're from Donny at places like Saracens.

Because coachloads of away fans don't need to go near the railway station? Is it really too difficult for you to work that one out for yourself?

Regardless of who the original poster is, I’d be quite interested to hear whether all (or even most) pubs in the town centre were refusing to admit home supporters. Seams a bit strange if you ask me...

I’d have thought it would be quite easy for the landlords / police or whoever to agree a couple of pubs as away only pubs and a couple of pubs (or even the rest of the pubs) as home only pubs. They would then have a good idea where each set of fans were before the game.

As simple as that sounds, I’m sure it’s not quite as simplistic as that and SM could offer more details around it all.

Which is why I'm frustrated with the question. We tend to only enforce this on major match days, such as today. At bigger clubs/cities, it's a standard on all match days.

To suggest it doesn't happen to us is a fallacy, all DRFC away fans will have been advised where are the best pubs to visit. Maybe not every game or town/city but it does happen.
