I’m wanting to make a trip down to London for the day/night at some point but due to work arrangements an advance train ticket isn’t an option, so does anyone have any tips about driving down and catching the train closer to central London and leaving the car overnight?

You can park on many streets for free south of the water. Not far to get over Tower Bridge on a bus.

At Stratford Westfield you can stay at Premier Inn or Holiday Inn but a cheaper option is a little further out at Newbury Park at Holiday Inn express fiver a day parking 3 min walk to Central Line and about 10 mins further out than Stratford

Good call for me as well
Have you ever tried Canons Park near Barnets "new" Ground ? Just wondered if there was Street parking closer to Tube Station than Stanmore
Also I used to use Wood Green for the same. Park on Street Tube to London

Park at Barnet. Loads of free parking there and easy to get into central London.
