Nowt to see here the UK are leading the way under this government, wallpaper is the subject of choice now.

After 3 lockdowns, billions wasted on a complete failure of a test and trace programme and thousands of unnecessary deaths, aye they're doing a stella job  :aok:

DMBC figures.

Makes perfect sense Nudga.
By those figures, there were 400 more people died in DMBC than dies on average each year between 2015-19.

DMBC has about 1/200th of the population of the UK, so scale that up and it'd be 80,000 excess deaths across the whole UK in 2020. Which is about what happened.

Roughly a 15% increase in deaths.

Those are all established facts, so I don't really get what you are pointing out here.

Very good national Covid figures again this evening. They've been looking good for some weeks now, with just over half the population vaccinated.

I wonder if we are seeing a herd immunity effect now?

Our local vaccination centre in Knaresborough has been closed since 17th April due to no vaccine supply. They currently have no idea when they will be allocated any. All centres in the Harrogate area have been instructed to not give any first doses until June at the earliest.

Whereas in Doncaster we are well ahead of the national curve and vaccinating the early 30s.

They've just got a batch of vaccines in York, next weekend will be a large session for the over 40s.

Australia had around 910 deaths due to covid and at least 3/4 of those were in aged care which was a massive failure. The government has always denied chasing an elimination strategy saying it is not possible which is supported by health experts. All in all the covid response except for a few near misses was good, the vaccine roll out is a mess.

The US figures are looking a whole lot better with close on 148m vaccinated and new daily cases down to around 50,000 7 day ave, so it looks like they have with their aggressive vaccine policy arrested what was looking like another wave.

Were hanging out for the first one, although relatively safe around here there will always be a danger. Another case today with advice for those to get tested.

Anyone who has attended the following venues must get tested and isolate immediately:

Distric Brasserie, Sydney 30/4/21 11am-11.45am
HineSight Optometrist, Sofitel Sydney Wentworth 30/4/21 12pm-1pm
Barbetta, Paddington 30/4/21 1.30pm-2.30pm
Event Cinemas at Bondi Junction Westfield 30/4/21 6pm-8pm
Figo Restaurant, Rushcutters Bay 30/4/21 8.45pm-11pm
Joe's Barbeques & Heating, Silverwater 1/5/21 1pm –1.45pm
Tucker Barbecues, Silverwater 1/5/21 1pm-1.45pm
Barbeques Galore, Annandale 1/5/21 2pm-3pm
Barbeques Galore, Casula 1/5/21 4pm-5pm
BP 1077 Botany Road, Mascot 1/5/21 4.30pm-5pm
The Meat Store, Bondi Junction 2/5/21 3pm-4pm

You can see what he was thinking?

Biden has committed to waiving covid vaccine patent protections. This is great for the present but of course not for future development of vaccines unless that will be government backed

Goodish but not brilliant news. If the economy grows by 7.25% this year and 6% next year, we will be making up the massive loss from last year. But given that our long term growth rate before Austerity and Brexit was 2.3%,by the end of next year we will still be a long way below where we would normally have expected to be.

Contrast with Biden's America is which is forecast to rebound far faster. Watch and see.

Bpool.

It's about the massive Govt spending over the next 4 years. Probably $4-5trn additional spending to out the boosters under their economy.

BST, I posted something along these lines in post 10828 a few days ago but apart from Blackpool no one commented on it.
Maybe because it was good news and plenty of naysayers don’t want to acknowledge good news.

I did see that bst but I also saw before that they expected massive growth due to many Americans having saved money during the pandemic and the vaccine rollout, tie that in with bidens plan to

Watch the growth rates over the next two years. We are not forecast to get back to the pre-COVID trend for years. America is forecast to get back there next year.

Getting 7% growth here this year isn't bad, but it's got to be seen in context. We lost 10% last year. So even a 7% increase this year leaves us significantly poorer than we were in 2019. And that's before you factor in that normally we would have, by the end of 2021, be 5% richer than we were in 2019.

There are huge differences in political choices being made on either side of the Atlantic. We are effectively choosing to prioritise controlling Govt debt. America is choosing to ignore that for now and get their economy really firing instead. I know which I prefer.

Uh oh,

These Indian varient appear to be very concerning. More transmissible and avoiding the vaccine immune response.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/may/06/new-concerns-indian-covid-variant-clusters-found-across-england-ongoing-risk-high

I'd say we should be holding off on any further loosening of the lockdown rules now until this has been investigated further.

People returning from Asia via Turkey to avoid quarantining in Govt Hotel. As British citizens it appears they are not breaking any rules and only need to quarantine at home, how can that be allowed?

Johnson kept the travel routes with India open far too long - because he was hoping for a big trade deal with India - prioritising the wealth of his party donors over the health of the British people again. He didn't get the big trade deal and we can only hope he hasn't put our health at risk - again.

It would seem not to make a difference if there coming thru other routes, the only way to stop it is ban all travel into the country
