Well if rumours of todays announcement are correct this thread can be locked.
It's all over according to Johnson

When did he say that?
I'm not playing your game BB, leave that up to BST

Pause this video on 19 seconds and tell me what you see, then come back and apologise to me if you were one of those who took the piss.

Boris' speech to the House today: -

- We can lift these restrictions because total deaths are low for this time of year. This is irrelevant. We need to be considering how many Covid deaths there are. Still 1,000 per week so double the annual rate for the worst years of flu.

- No longer legally required to self-isolate but advised to from 24th Feb, then from 1st April exercise personal responsibility on deciding whether to stay at home. Why? Is Omicron getting safer to meet these deadlines? Regardless of overall infection rates any one individual with Covid is still just as likely to infect the same amount of people with a dangerous, nasty illness.

- Self-isolation support payments for those on low incomes to end. So the rich can exercise personal responsibility on whether to go to work and potentially infect their (mainly richer) colleagues. The poor have no option but to go to work and potentially infect their (mainly poorer) colleagues - unless they have a generous employer.

Omicron is safer, clearly much safer than prior covid variants be that the virus or vaccines it is much less dangerous for the vast majority (not all).

On your point on respiratory illness, actually the stats say different the rate is no higher than any year (lower than some).

Realistically what are most people doing that makes much difference to the spread now? Very little if anything at all.

No, I genuinely don't get your point. An Australian media cameraman has pointed a camera at an Invermectin box, while a doctor was talking about COVID drugs. But Invermectin isn't and never had been qualified for use in Australia. So I honestly don't get what point you are making.

A Current Affair has apologised after broadcasting images of stromectol during a segment about the Queen's Covid diagnosis. Photograph: Channel Nine

The Nine Network has apologised after mistakenly suggesting the Queen was using the drug ivermectin after contracting Covid.

The error had already been boosted by anti-vax and anti-lockdown groups that support the use of ivermectin to treat Covid despite it being labelled “ineffective” by Australia’s chief medical officer.

It doesn't make any difference.

It doesn't matter how many times you Whack-A-Mole these batshit conspiracies, the next one springs up like a zombie.

I was told explicitly on here that ivermectin was a horse dewormer and not fit for human consumption.
I'm not f**kin bothered if the queen did or didn't use it, my point was that it is used for human medication.
That point was obviously lost on Professor Goodvirus on here.

I’m surprised that the 8.7% figure is so low.
I know two people who have bragged about claiming furlough payments but have worked the system so that they continued to operate but claim the payments.
It is up to the system now to weed out those types and punish them.

what do you mean by working the system ,claiming benefits or still working for the same company

''Hancock also said his decision to step down more than 24 hours after the pictures were published was made after people he knew and respected got in touch to remind him they had been unable to see dying relatives'' because of Covid regulations''

he was obviously unaware of this beforehand

Just a comment on the news and how things fall quickly down the agenda.

Barely a peep on Covid in the media recently despite it being the main news item for 2 years.

See here www.bbc.co.uk/news/coronavirus no new article since 21st February.

Reflected on here too. Only 3 posts since 23rd February, none since the 28th on a thread running to 546 pages.

Yes of course the unfolding tragedy in Ukraine is the major event occurring in the world right now and warrants the media attention it is receiving.

But over 700 people died in the UK with Covid last week - a rate c. 50% higher than the very worst years for influenza.

For the first time since the beginning of the pandemic the mortality risk from civid is now lower than that from flu.

It's now 'no worse than flu'.

Good news and finally the obsession on case numbers is reducing especially in Germany with over 300k cases per day now but mostly normal life.

We are seeing cases jump here again now, I wonder if it's a virus we'll keep getting frequently?

My wife started about eight days ago but thought she was just under the weather until a positive test.
I started towards the end of last week but kept testing negative.
Me the wife's mum and step-dad all had PCR tests in Bradford yesterday after positive lateral flow tests.
So far the worst anybody suffered is the sore throat and a bit of fatigue. The in laws are 88 and 90 and are coping ok with grandkids doing their shopping. It must be a lot milder than the earlier form of the virus or our three jabs have minimised the effect.

Does anyone believe covid was ‘released’ either accidentally or purposely from a lab & if purposely the Chinese government underestimated its spread & effects?
