Bit of a decrease today to 43k if we can keep it slowly going down before holidays then things should look much better

Let me assure you no random person would want to hug or kiss me or Wolfie. Oh and we both wear masks at the game
Good to have met you on Saturday Wolfie, no we didn't hug and kiss

Today's figures are 5000 up on last Tuesday. The 7 day average is still going up very quickly. I'd put decent money on the next 3-4 days all being around 50k reported cases.

And the solution is what? More misery locked in our homes? No thanks.

Easy for you to say. You're not one of the 223 people whose deaths have been reported today.

Do you have a cut off level of deaths at which the misery of being locked in your home would be a reasonable price to pay?

Yes but there wasn't really 223 in one day as you know it's just delayed from the weekend, some people are saying there could be up to 50k deaths from the flu at what point do you then put restrictions in place for that? What restrictions do you think they should have bst?

Agreed. But the 7 day average of deaths is up above 130 and rising rapidly. That's nearly 1000 avoidable deaths a week. And we are just accepting that.

How many of those do you think haven't been vaccinated? Or had the vaccine so long ago that it is fading and we are not getting boosters in arms very quickly?

I’m not sure that boosters aren’t being done quickly enough.
Me and the wife are having our boosters next week, six months after the second jab.

Good. I'm glad for you.

Problem is, you are the lucky ones. Eslewhere, there's nearly 5 million people who should have had their booster jab because they are >6 months after their second jab, but who haven't been called up yet. And every day, they are getting more vulnerable. With something approaching 1 in 60 of the population currently infected.

So, maybe we've become victims of our own success following our brilliant jab output initially becoming a hard act to follow?

Cheer up BST, the coronavirus act has been extended for another 6 months without parliamentary debate.
You'll have your lockdowns, masks, new borns jabbed in a couple of weeks.

This has got me raging. These Kitsons are taking the piss out of us. It's all fun and games for these w**kers, but of course, the rules don't apply to them.

No, but I am in the vulnerable category. I also have two small children who need development, need to be in education and developing social skills in person.  I have a team at work who need to be trained in person and need social interaction for their mental health who are seeing their careers suffer as they aren't getting the knowledge of the more experienced and highly qualified.

If anything the return to normality has made me realise just how much it's needed in many ways and I don't have an answer to get there.

I've had my jabs, still wear a mask, still do my tests for the covid study and still minimise contact where possible.  But we have to find an equilibrium.

Thankfully for me Harrogate have realised they need a vaccination centre again for the first time since June. For some reason they seemed to think a small community centre in Knaresborough could cope. No wonder we've got the highest rate in Yorkshire.

that is just not true so your telling me none of the 1000 people Would die and are all avoidable? The only way to bring the numbers right down would be some sort of lockdown, people keep calling for masks but that alone will not bring the numbers down without limiting pubs and sporting events, what do you propose?

I suggested on here a few days ago that we could be heading for another winter lockdown.

Avoidable? How?

Avoidable by us not having lost control of the outbreak back in May.

By us not having chosen as policy to send a clear message that masks were no longer needed, so that we now have the lowest rate of mask use in western Europe.

Avoidable by having kept sensible measures in schools instead of throwing our hands up and letting it rip.

Avoidable by sorting out vaccinations for kids months earlier than we did.

Avoidable by not being months behind on booster jabs.

Simple issues of competent management, well short of lockdown, could have kept this under control, as they have across Western Europe. But we are always different. And when it goes wrong, our response is always "What else could we have done?"

You simply cannot state as fact they were all avoidable and you know it. Emotive opinion is not fact. “Some” or “most” would have worked.

Imagine if Govt policy was to reduce standards of aviation safety, because, cost...

Imagine then if an airliner fell out of the sky every three days. For months.

Do you think there would be an outcry?

That's what our death toll currently is, compared to similar countries that have taken different paths this past 6 months, without f**king their economies.

One point at a time.

They did NOT send a clear message that masks were no longer needed. They said common sense should prevail and people should wear masks when in crowded areas.

And then they sent a VERY clear message by refusing to wear masks, day after day after day in the crowded House of Commons.

This matters. People see those images and take the message.
