Are you thinking it might be a show of strength by UEFA, with the intention of letting them off on appeal?
A public shot across the bows of any club intending to break the rules.

Why is so hard to see why players wouldn't stay when most of their money is made by playing in Europe and contracts but out clauses include  sponsorships , appearance and goal bonuses etc ..

I don’t really see what the problem is with teams like City “buying success”. Barca and Madrid have done it for years and get nothing but a slap on the wrist. For whatever reason a different set of rules seem to apply for “new money” clubs like City and PSG.

They may well be artificially inflating the value of sponsorships by their own owners trying to find a way to invest in their club - but to me that isn’t such a bad thing. All they are trying to do is grow their business as quickly as possible. As far as I am aware they are not loaning money to the club at inflated interest rates they are pumping money in. To me they are trying to get into a position where they have success which in turn attracts better players, raises the clubs profile and draws more fans in.

From my perspective UEFA wins out in this anyway. They have more competition for their trophies and the league is more exciting to watch.

Almost every top league in the world is dominated historically by a couple of teams, who attract the best players and who make and spend the most money. That gap grows almost every year, it is just the way football has become.

We just need to think about 'fair' competition and the implications for the game going forward.

The other aspect is those clubs including City who will employ the best lawyers to exploit the loopholes in the rules and it becomes an issue of performance during court proceedings rather than the rule break itself.

We saw this with the Bolton case as it appears from the appeal, the unsatisfactory outcome was as a result of the EFL presenting a weak case with a lawyer who didn't push for a harsher sanction against Bolton, so it was more about the way the case was presented rather than the rule break itself.

If it isn't already, the game off the field is becoming more corrupt which means the whole integrity of the football pyramid is in jeopardy.

Nice to see UEFA standing up to state ownership of football clubs, these sheikhs have got so much money they think they can do what they want, just a shame FIFA took the money to make the most absurd decision of all time with the Qatar World Cup. I know Madrid have been sponsored by the Spanish government in the past but that doesn’t make it right, let’s have consistency and stop all this greed in football, a pipe dream I know. Hope the fine goes to grassroots, doubt it.

Let’s hope that nobody with mega money buys donny normal rules.  God forbid a money man buys players for success at our club.

Jealousy is an awful attribute

One thing I always have said, if Rovers made the Premiership I would stop going, it would be too expensive and I don't want to watch a bunch of cheats play in those shirts.
