Sweet f**king Jesus!

Just look at new unemployment claims in the USA.

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/03/19/upshot/coronavirus-jobless-claims-states.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage

Gone from historically low to historically high levels in one week. In a normal recession, it takes a year for that sort of change in unemployment to happen. And that new level only adds up 15/50 states! There's 35 states still to add data.

And THAT is why Govts everywhere must IMMEDIATELY underwrite salaries. If they don't, this is going to be the worst economic catastrophe since...well, effectively, ever.

I heard somewhere that they were considering some sort of universal income for all adults, an idea which as far as I know was first suggested by John Hargreaves of the Kibbo Kift in the 1930s. sounds like a good idea to me but I can't see it washing with the Conservatives, however we are in strange times.
PS: has anyone seen any UHT milk anywhere?

Everything they have announced to date goes against their ideology of state intervention

Well I’m normally based at home but spend a lot of time out.
Week 1 complete of a full week at home.
Felt really frustrated by it all this week, let’s hope it gets easier.

The firm I work for have told us we will not be paid for any absence, but if we feel ill we must go home! I'll bet the management will be getting paid.

Are you in a union? Your firm is bullshitting you. They can get a grant from Govt which would easily cover immediate sick pay costs.

No. They don't want to take on a loan because of the interest payments! They're creating a proper time bomb with the future attitude of the staff when this all gets sorted.

We've been told exactly the same... £92 a week sick pay is all we will get apparently or use holiday days where possible.

The wife always keeps a couple of spare in but not seen any for over a week in supermarket. We do still have a milkman though.
They reckon a woman in Shipley has bought a load of baby milk and is offering it for sale at £40 a tub. If that is true it's disgusting. People have just gone mental my granddaughter's partner had a woman trying to grab meat out of his trolley yesterday in Asda.

First morning at it fully today.  Can here the other half and kids downstairs.  Now living in fear of a news style moment with my toddler running in mid conference call.

I’ve asked my other half not to just walk in, in case I am in the middle of an important call, but just like when I am in the office she can what’s app me etc..

Definitely.  We've already messaged as normal this morning, first one I had was "how was your journey to work?"

Just hitting me what this is going to be like.

My wife (library worker) has been called into work. Libraries have shut but they are looking at putting the staff into a general Council workers pool for other tasks. I get the logic, but it means I'm trying to work from home and look after 2 kids of 12 & 13.

Going to be fun doing the 4 hour Skype meeting I have planned for after lunch.

I guess we all just have to be reasonable. There is not a chance in a million you can be 100% productive in those circumstances.

Definitely a case of that BST. My wife and I are both still working from home, but we've got our 5 year old in the room with us doing her school work. Needs must.

Aye and unfortunately a lot of company owners etc don't see it that way.  They've done everything at our place to keep us in and my team are in work also which is an interesting dynamic given I'm now full time at home.  What these people forcing people in to offices etc don't consider is the long term effects on staff empowerment that has.

I'm same. Had a plant closure today because of component supply from Hungary. Open tomorrow and have an action packed day planned alongside entertaining a 3yr old. Can't wait.
