I went to the Chester away game and though disappointed expected us to improve.
I was working away in Fleetwood and missed the replay. I was gutted when I saw the score on the news. Typical Rovers cup form at the time though.☹️

Come on fellow "oldies". I have just searched for this and have posted this 4 times - and shortly this will be 5 times

It is self explanatory from 68/60 Season and to my knowledge nobody has ever confirmed that they remembered this happening but neither has anyone said Wolfie I just dont remember that.

It DID happen though and must be in my top 20 Rovers memories as it was brilliant in the context of the game and so so funny when it happened. Here it is for the fifth time

It was a great time to be a football supporter except that it took ages to get ANYWHERE

Alonzo is right and those 3 were class acts and the loss of Nicko was a hammer blow for the club and individuals such as me

Bobby Gilfillan fetaured in an \"incident\" I have related on here before probably in the 68/9 promotion season away at Lincoln

He was having a bit of a mare of a game and could not put a foot right. I think we were 1-0 down and Rovers fans were singing

\"send Gilfillan to Vietnam HALLELUJAH send Gilfillan to Vietnam HALLELUJAH
One way Ticket and no return HALLELUJAH One way ticket and no return HALLEJUJAH\"

whereupon he picked the ball up on about 20 - 25 yeards and belted the ball high into the net. We went abolutely BARMY and the cheers were then replaced with a spontaneous round of

Bobby Gilfillan
Bobby Gilfillan

(to the same tune as bring on The Champions)

YES we were just as fickle back then

I was there Wolfie but can't actually remember that bit.
I remember after the game five of us walked back to the mate's Morris Minor 1000. He was doing a three point turn with a cold engine and the choke out. I opened the window and shouted "Up the Rovers" at a group of about 30-50 Lincoln fans about 40 yards down the road. They started chasing our chugging car and Eddie the driver crapped himself until the car stopped coughing and picked up speed. Happy days.

My trouble is I retain s**t such as that and some others dont remember them !

I was travelling with 2 mates in their car one time and it left the road and was heading for a Tallywag Pole but the driver stopped it well short of the pole and had we continued it would probably not have dented the Car

When I mentioned it many many years later neither could remember it

Hopefully with this we have a "fellow" s**t retainer on the Forum but in 5 mentions nobody has volunteered to agree with me

Blimey 0-2 already LOL

Where is Alonzo when you need him or Goole Rover - they remember things like that.

For me it has always been there - its stands out so so clearly and from singing the song disparaging Bobby G to the brilliant shot he let loose with almost breaking the net - and us all going mad - then switching to the chant lauding him took just seconds and was so funny

Talk about fickle fans

On more than one occasion I’ve seen fans behave exactly the same and just smiled at the hypocrisy. At half time in that game we stood at the back on the side opposite the main stand. A couple of Lincoln fans who had been causing bother and been thrown out were stood below  outside the ground. I shouted down “Don’t worry, you’re not missing much”. Which surprisingly enough wound them up a bit.
