Why is it only Channel 4 news leads with and points out that that the UK death rate is higher than those in Italy and Spain? Or that UK government death statistics are major underestimates since they exclude deaths that occur outside hospital? Why is it that no one seems willing to report the fact that far from empty Nightingale hospitals being a sign that we are 'winning', they are actually a result of doctors not being allowed to refer seriously ill Covid 19 patients to them? If they do anyway, they have to provide their own medical staff and equipment with which to treet their patient? Could it be that closing nursing schools in the interest of austerity has actually had consequences? Why has no one highlighted the fact that our Prime Minister, prior to his being infected with Covid 19, failed to attend 5 COBRA meetings specifically called to discuss the crisis? The last time such a crisis erupted, for the Mad Cow debacle, the then PM chaired every single meeting, listened to the experts, and made decisions based upon that advice. Sadly, none of those traits appear to have been in evidence this time around. The waste of the entire month of February is tantamount to wilfull multiple manslaughter. But no one seems willing to bring this up in the news. Why do we clap the NHS? Is it a guilty conscience? It certainly has to be the case when one hears Conservative Ministers repeatedly bleating on about 'Our NHS'. I beg their pardon? Have they forgotten the vote in Parliament in 2017 when virtually every Tory MP voted to turn down a Labour motion to pay nurses slightly more? And despicably, when the motion was duly lost, the Tory benches, and Ministers, actually bloody cheered. Why has no one commented on the fact that the government has, for 8 consecutive days, refused to put up any spokesperson for Channel 4 news to discuss aspects of the crisis and the government response? I was led to believe it's called Transparency and accountablity....'I'd rather have Mrs Thatcher back.BobG
I clap because my daughter works within the NHS as well as being a home carer, I also clap for the work they do in challenging conditions, theres no guilt at all here. I worry for my daughter every day she goes to work these days
