We took a lad from what is by and large semi-pro in Ireland, with very little record in English football. If we had given him a three year deal and he was not up to the English game, then we have a Kiwomya on our hands. It was a decent punt on him that did not quite come off, but we got 18 months from him. Not more that can be said really.

It's also a league where the likes of Roy Keane, Ray Houghton, Ronnie Whelan, Damien Duff, Paul McGrath, Robbie Keane, Steve Staunton, Stephen Carr, Niall Quinn, Seamus Coleman, Kevin Kilbane, Gary Kelly, Ian Harte, Glenn Whelan, Andy Townshend, Matt Holland Rory Delap & Shat Given have come front play in the EPL. I won't go onto list the players that have come out of Ireland and made a career playing in the Championship or Leagues One a & Two. So not sure it was a punt as you put it!
I think we can get the gist of what ND is saying though.

Hardly makes him a pin up for the success of the Irish League as a breeding ground for decent footballing careers though!

Or who’s grandfather’s mate’s dog used to lap Guinness from a saucer in the pub..That’s not a dig at the Irish by the way, more a reference to the national side when Jack Charlton was in charge..
