A wyked Wycombe Quiz
« on July 07, 2020, 01:42:04 am by Colemans Left Hook »
Ok potentially Wycombe Wanderers might "win"  promotion after technically finishing 8th

but CLH remembers one team finishing lower than that in the league and consequently "winning" ....  something

A) what is the name of that team

by the way did anyone realise it isn't all that long since both Wycombe & Fleetwood were non league teams ..... something for Barrow to aspire to ??? :scarf:

Technically finished 8th.?

Wycombe joined the EFL in 1993, so quite a while really.

Has anyone got that clip of the horrendous tackle on Dave Moss on YouTube to attach - it could’ve snapped his leg in two - but being a lad from Rossington he just got up, dusted himself down & got on with it

This one.?

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FkEeJnr2-VA

About 25 seconds in.  I was there.

Crazy thing was Jason Cousins only got a yellow card for that foul, but had already been booked so was rightly sent off.  He had been sent off in the previous game too I think - those days the suspensions didn’t kick in immediately.

Martin O’Neill was very close to sacking Cousins, but that could just have been a heat of the moment reaction..

Who was the co commentator who suggested that both players went in too high.
WTF was he on about.
It was worse than the famous Roy Keane one.

Probably the one doing the Wycombe video.?

Remember Kevin Keegan’s comments over the elbow incident in the USA vs Brazil WC game.?

Loads of teams have finished lower than 8th and won something... think you might have to make your question a bit clearer

Well, a certain team finished in 11th Place in 2007 and managed to scrape home a win in the JPT Final against Bristol Rovers.  Does that count?

fair comment --  can i add the word as a result of finishing 10th they "qualified for XXXXXXX"  as a result of that 10th place. and ........  (see above)

by the way if Rovers points per game had been enough for the play offs all hell would have been let off because so many of the games had been at home .-it would have been unfair ?? --.. this has probably been mentioned before. ??   At least we got extra revenue from all the home matches.

While we had played a disproportionate amount of home games when the season ended, the two games in hand at Bolton and Tranmere which would if played at the time almost certainly have got us 6 points, and made it a little closer to the top 6 but not quite there on ppg.

We played the rearranged game with Tranmere and won it comfortably, Ramsey's debut. So we already had those points.

Wasn't the tranmere game at home called off because tranmere had players away on international duty or have I got that totally wrong

That was Shrewsbury wasn’t it.? And the rearranged game was over the Christmas period I think.

Tranmere away was rained off.

teams from all sorts of countries competed, before the time these "new*"  countries gained independance

* a lot of these "new" countries used to exist a long time ago before they were absorbed by larger ones

i'm giving it away now ......

Your question seems to have changed completely, so I give up.

I thought we were trying to identify a team that had finished lower than 8th place in the third tier then won something as a result of finishing in that position.

If we could understand the question there might be. As it is, all your 'giving it away' does is muddy the waters even further.

Your hints are seemingly trying to guide us towards Newcastle United winning the UEFA Fairs Cup after finishing 10th the previous season.

But 10th in the old First Division isn't lower than 8th in the third tier

Did CLH suggest that the team he was talking about (Newcastle) was in the third tier.

Swindon Town won the League Cup while a third division club.
If I remember right we did the double over them even though we were relegated. 1-0 both games.

Yes indeed and that made our double even more surprising.
I think that we even had Norman Corner at centre half in the away game as well.
