Weird!

Not really, he's not our first choice keeper and his contact runs for another 12 months. Plus he lives out that way too.

Would that take us to the end of Lawler's contact?

Edit - just seen SM's post above. Yes it does

Alex Palmer was linked on those dodgy Twitter pages. Maybe there's truth in the link! He'd be a decent signing.

Yeah you'd think we have someone coming in. Just hope it's someone close to Dieng's standard!

How does this work with the salary cap, then? If you loan a player out for the season, does that give you wiggle room in the wage cap? Or are they still considered fully on the books in case the loan ends prematurely?

Having Dieng last season really showed up Lawlors shortcomings & the need for us to get a better keeper - I used to ger shouted at when I said I preferred Marosi over Lawlor but it didn’t change my opinion !

Loan players don't have their wage included. It goes on to the host club as long as that loan player is over 21.

Ah so when we loan Palmer it'll be on our books and as part of the our cap? ;)

I always preferred Marko as well, Cov fans can't understand why we let him go.

SM, correction on that statement ‘he wasn’t our first team keeper’?

He, surely, would have been in front of Jones?

Not seen anything of him but looking at Plymouth forum they were massive fans of him.

I wasn't a fan of either Marko or Lawlor to be honest. Makes sense if Palmer was at WBA

Such an odd one with Marko. Coventry mates rave about him as one of the best keepers they have ever had but he never filled me with that much confidence. Would have chosen Dieng over him all day long.

Me too however the two games against Charlton showcased Markos failings, Seny was a different level.

Lawlor lost his place in the team to Marosi and then to Dieng so it's no surprise. Marosi has proven those of us who said he was better right so far, he will be a Championship keeper in 2020/21 and Lawlor a League 2 goalie.

Good luck to him but I think it was clear his time with us was done. Looking forward to seeing who comes in although it would not surprise me if Jones won the shirt this season.

I always felt Lawlor had potential but he just couldn’t seem to find the confidence to make use of his frame and athleticism by coming for crosses and commanding his box. He was a decent reactionary shot stopper but almost glued to his line when the ball came across and it cost us so many times. Sadly there was never any sign of that changing with coaching.

Marosi was a better all round keeper. Dieng was in another league entirely.
