Rovers Academy - Question for the Statto's
« on October 25, 2020, 03:50:15 pm by DRFC-Hanksie »
Been speaking to a mate last night, asked me to post this as he wanted some things clearing up, this is literally copied straight from the text message.

Need the following:

- The last goalkeeper to come through the rovers academy system and play 30+ first team games for us.

- The last outfield player to come through the rovers academy system and play 30+ first team games for us.

- The total amount who've come through the system (and played 5 first team games) since we regained league status.

Rules are:

- Not youth team where after U16's you can sign all cast offs from the category 1 & 2 academies (Derby, Forest, Leeds etc)

- They have to have been in our academy u9's to u16's and have done at least a year.

The second one is surely Liam Mandeville, who played more than 50 first team games for us, although I'm not entirely sure when he came into the Rovers system.

Played 64 times for us, so that's one ticked off but...

"Having previously played for Sunday League team Leven FC, Mandeville signed for Rovers at 16 years of age, when he was offered a two-year youth scholarship, before being awarded a professional contract when he was just 17."

Mandeville doesn’t fit the criteria in the original question.

I'm saying Mitchell Lund. Signed for Rovers aged 12 and made 45 first team appearances.

I think the rules are a bit off
There won’t be anyone I wouldnt imagine that’s been with us from under 9s, players like green, husband etc came at under 16s
But should still count in my opinion, as full time training within the academy only starts at under 17 age

Let's not forget five years ago there was a player in the Academy who moved to Sunderland for a fairly hefty sum (for Rovers to receive for a then 14-year-old, anyway)

even earlier than that   ... we learn a few things here

https://boxtoboxmedia.net/2017/11/06/club-legend-mike-elwiss/

"What was the problem on the Liverpool deal?
Money, not on my side either. It was the time when they were buying people from the lower divisions, but it was all about money between the two clubs. Doncaster kept putting the price up but Liverpool kept saying no. But the move to Preston was a good move and it was a really good time I had here."

and everyone has moaned on here for a lifetime we keep selling players for peanuts

Letting Max Waters go on a free looks like a mistake too...

Watters isn't remotely an academy player though, we signed him out of non-league at age 19 straight into the first team.
