Hi folks,No Christmas number one for Rovers then after a frustrating loss to Shrewsbury. My analysis of the game is now up on the website, dwelling on some negatives but also looking to positive aspects of the 1-0 defeat. You can check it out at the link below:https://www.intotheemptynet.com/post/5-things-we-learned-rovers-0-1-shrewsburyMany thanks for reading as ever, please let me know your thoughts!
Or maybe stop giving stupid free kicks away in dangerous parts of the field

Fortunately didn’t cost any points at Burton but of course it did last night.Hopefully he will learn quickly.

Fortunately didn%u2019t cost any points at Burton but of course it did last night.Hopefully he will learn quickly. The penalty Taylor Richards gave away against Burton was reckless, no doubt about that. But the tackle v Shrewsbury less so. He's a combative midfielder trying to win the ball. I'd be disappointed if he didn't give a free kick away every now and again.I think the bigger problem is defending from the free kick. But to be fair I've watched that Shrewsbury goal back a few times and it is a very well worked goal from their pov.(No - in Taylor Richards btw)

The tackle was not needed, there was no danger and it was maybe not reckless but foolish. He is far better offensively than defensively but is young and his over keenness is at the times getting the better of him. I am sure DM will be giving him plenty of advice and he will learn. The lad has huge ability and could possibly play at the top level imo.I agree about defending free kicks. It is not great and as I said in another thread I think we have conceded about 50% of our goals from set pieces this season. We need to improve our set pieces also. Sounds as though I am having a moan. No I am very happy with where we are as a team and our position in the league at this time. Very happy indeed. But there is always room for improvement and this team can only get better imo so we are in for a very good season with every possibility of promotion as the end result.

We are slightly better than average when it comes to chances conceded from set pieces.
