Ipswich v Sunderland
« on January 27, 2021, 11:46:12 am by swain_drfc »
After our impressive performance and win last night did anyone turn on sky sports and watch the 2nd half of the game between these two supposed “giants” in our league.

What a god awful game that was. Ipswich were dreadful and Sunderland to say they had the man advantage were not much better. We have nothing to worry about coming up against these two in the upcoming run of fixtures.

I also find it funny how skybet still have Sunderland at shorter odds than us for the title  :silly:  :silly:

Watching those two play twice a year against us is quite enough for me swain, I always think of the songs Tears for Souvenirs by Ken Dodd and Memories by Elain Paige when they are mentioned.

More Sunderland fans than Rovers betting. That can be the only conclusion.

Given people think we are a better side (I’m not saying we aren’t, for reference) we haven’t won against Sunderland since they’ve been in this league. We always appear to struggle against them. Wonder why?

Fancy us at the Stadium of Light this time. Their home form is very poor.
Did not enjoy that seat up in the Gods last season. Very poor for a modern Stadium.

We were robbed the year before by that Baffoon of a ref and were unlucky last season not to win.

We played well first half last year up there and they had the better of the second half without really threatening until the final moments. Year before when we got beat 2-0, we were absolutely abject. Has a definite penalty(, or possibly two) denied but deserved nothing from the game.
They doubled us in 87/88 season and I think I'm correct in stating we have never beaten them in a league game

McCann played Whiteman in that first game when he was nowhere near fit enough and it cost us, we had nothing in midfield and got overrun for the entire 90 minutes.

Yeah we were rubbish in that 2-0 loss there in 2019. Should have had a penalty but we were shocking other than that. I remember their full backs (think it was O’Nien and Ovideo) properly tore us a new one

The police were the worst part of that 2019 game. When Sunderland had sold all the back row seats and then closed them off so no one could find seats. Police were having a go at everyone for standing up. Yeah because you’ve sold 100 tickets and shut the seats off. What the f do you think is going to happen?!

I started watching it but turned over to watch Ancient Aliens instead - much more interesting.
