Boston United
« on February 24, 2021, 09:10:13 am by Donnywolf »
Just seen Professor Jonathan Van Tam (JVT) on TV this morning and turns out he is a died in the wool Pilgrims Fan and has been commuting to Gainsborough for home games as Boston were having their new Ground built. Now he cant get in the new one until restrictions lifted ?

Also turns out his Grandad was a Prime Minister of Vietnam
Also I like him as he seems a straight talking - no nonsense - down the line - Chief Medical Officer but I suppose its easier than being a politician and have to give political answers
So Boston United fan - do we cut him / them some slack ?

Definitely. Its great see a "personality" showing his support for his local team rather than those who are big club supporter but in reality have probably never seen them play other than on the TV.

I loved it when he was asked if people recognised him and what reaction he gets .... and he said he was laughing when they were chanting                   "Jonathan Van Tam - he's one of our own"

Seems a great bloke

He is a bit of a celebrity down here in sleepy Lincs. The observant amongst you will have seen his BUFC books behind him on his bookcase when he does online interviews on the TV. When he has appeared with the PM during briefings on TV he has been sporting a BUFC  tie also. He is a fully paid up STH too.
It’s worth checking him out on wiki. He has an interesting family.

It’s unlikely Boston will entertain fans at their new ground before this season is out, so I would love it if they plan a pre season against Rovers.

That would be quite likely wouldn't it? They are mostly based in Doncaster aren't they?

Greeny currently at Boston. Not sure if he'll carry on after this season. Few other Doncaster living boys are there as well.

I saw Greeny and a couple of their players turn up for training at the Keepmoat last Thursday evening an hour before their season was announced curtailed, felt sorry for them putting in the effort for no reward when I heard on the radio driving home.
  Monkcaster he looked very fit.

Yep. A lot of wasted hours for those boys. Greeny has always been an engine on legs, hasn't he. Set up his own football factory for kids these days as well so it's good to see him passing his knowledge on!

Was that the bald headed keeper? He definitely got the ‘crazy’ to be a keeper cliche.

That was him. Half decent at that level in an overweight, middle aged man kind of way.

Used to really dislike Boston but my respect was restored when they gave us a guard of honour.
JVT definitely seems a character, I noticed the Pilgrims book behind him yesterday

I have a cousin who assists a "Scout" for a nearby Club and he dislikes Boston U with a passion

Reason ? Nothing more than they went in Chip Shop nearest to old Ground and after ordering they were asked if they wanted a plate and the silly sod said yes and was charged an extra 50p - and he has never let it go LOL

Eagles Chippy. So good it even gets a mention in one of the fans songs.

WOW - do you have a link to that or a copy

I would love to remind him of that. We have always "ribbed" each other - and I sometimes mention Boston and its Chippy just as I know it will get a bite

I wouldnt charge him the extra for the plate from which to take the bite either it would be foc

Was that the bald one? I made a sarcastic comment to him and Steve Evans at Belle Vue as they walked down the tunnel after we turned them over 4-3; both then tried to punch me...to be fair I deserved it and would have likely done the same.

I remember at Boston when Andy Liney ran on the pitch and repeatedly slapped Bostock 'Benny Hill' style on the top of his bald head, just after half time while the game was playing! Bostock then pulled Andy's Donny Dog head off and slapped him repeatedly like-wise.

Bostock took it in very good spirit, I thought.

Did we seal promotion or win League Two at Boston away back in 2004? I remember Steve Evans had recently returned as their manager, them being quite good although we won and Graeme Jones playing for them.
