Lets talk about the Fleetwood Town game
« on April 21, 2021, 09:14:22 pm by selby »
After last nights game v Accrington we come up this weekend against the team that set the standard for others to follow earlier in the season with Shrewsbury of not taking us on as a footballing side, and just stopping us from playing, stop anyone running with the ball, make professional fouls in mid field away from the danger area, lump the ball back to our back four as quickly as possible over the top, and just wait for us to make a mistake at the back, and separate our front two from the rest of the team, a pattern of play that numerous teams have followed since our first meeting and Accrington followed to the letter.
Do I expect any difference at the weekend? not on your life, can we counteract it? after all it  is the pattern of play we have come up against since Christmas and as yet have not figured out a way of counteracting it, so why should Fleetwood play any other way?
And if we have a referee like last night who constantly let especially Fey be manhandled and gave a free kick in reaction to any screams when our players went near or into any sort of tackle for the ball or touched an Accrington player, why not play that way.
That might be considered an excuse for our own team being one of the few if not the only one in professional  football to give two penalties away with such schoolboy errors at such vital times in the game, it isn't, there is no excuse for such naivety, a North East Counties side would be peed off to give those two away.
So I expect much the same approach from Fleetwood, Do you?
What is the answer? when for in most games in 2021 being unable to play and impose our game on the opposition, instead of them making us play how they want us to? and know that at each end of the pitch we are poor in both areas.
What changes if any  would you make?
Have we got the personnel to make changes?
  Would you start Jones?
Lots to talk about this game please have your say.

Jones should start each of our last five games.
Not because of the mistakes by Balcombe late in the game but simply because Jones is our keeper and will probably be here next season when Balcombe will not.
Whatever team we put out will probably struggle to get anything from the game because confidence must be so low.
We don’t do well against Fleetwood and I don’t expect that to change.
However, we are due a bit of luck so I reckon we might scrape a draw if we can cut out the calamitous defensive blunders.
We do seem to be easily bullied out of games and Fleetwood are typical of the teams that have done it to us.
I hope our next season manager can address this problem and bring some physically powerful players in.

Well I like Balcolmbe as i have said previously but imdidn’t like what he did to throw the game away yesterday. To make the same blunder he did at Lincoln was really very stupid indeed and he needs to engage brain. He has the potential to be a very good keeper imo but must learn from his mistakes quickly.

So i would  say keep Balcolmbe in the team if we were still in the play off hunt as he is the more imposing of the 2 keepers. Much more confident in the air and dominates his 6yd box.
But as we are now out of the play offs barring a minor miracle, then we may as well give Jones game time to get more experience, as he is our Keeper and Balcombe is on loan.

Start Jones, Greaves and Horton we’ve not much to lose now and these lads might show a bit more effort to help restore some pride.

One of the above players could prove themselves up to it meaning we’ve a position less to recruit in the summer. With the numbers we’ll need that’ll help a lot!

I never really realised how very average Rovers are looking now . Making goal keeping errors , only one proper defender with any pace , no play maker with any craft from midfield , strikers that need 3-4 or 6 attempts at goal before we get one on target . Etc etc .

If the season had started a few weeks ago we’d be bottom scratching our arses and looking up the league . Darren Moore left the club with enough points on the board to go up into playoff place or just miss the drop. It’s never been more obvious since we got relegated from the championship with a huge wage-bill and a bunch foreign mercenaries , that we need to clear this lot out and start again . Fleetwood who themselves are going through a similar redevelopment phase , will be no pushovers and unless we start shooting more and defending better it’s going to be another poor away day !! ...,IMO

We are less than capable of getting anything from this game , the end is in sight and the season has gone....some know they aren’t gonna be here and they are dragging the rest down....

Lose 1-4
Win1-0

TRUE

Me neither but I just hope - but they might do their usual routine on us

However, we are due a bit of luck so I reckon we might scrape a draw if we can cut out the calamitous defensive blunders.

YES -as above

I hope our next season manager can address this problem and bring some physically powerful players in.

I honestly think we will win and other results will go for us, just opening that play off door a gnats to tease us. Welcome to the Rovers Rollercoaster

That door is well and truly locked and no one knows where the key is.

I wish i could believe that. It would seem a few of our players are not that bothered based on what we have seen over the last few weeks.
Would be very happy to be proved wrong over the last 5 games. We need to win them all whatever the other results are.
If that happens  :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Wel the first result of the day wasn’t good for us.
Portsmouth have won and that has confirmed relegation for Bristol Rovers.

I never thought I’d say it but COVID-19 has been blessing in disguise, not having to witness these performances.
