Just been on talk sport as he’s won the Tom finney award which is being awarded to him tonight.

He also said he’s definitely retiring in ten days, first time I’ve heard him being so definitive about it

Reading that 2nd sentence had a similar feeling of getting binned off by a female. It's actually happening, isn't it?

There's a video on Rovers' Twitter about it, at the end Copps is just fully in tears about retiring and his career.

Very emotional stuff.

I'm absolutely gutted I won't see him play live again. I can't even watch his final game on iFollow due to them moving it to Sunday as well.

Seriously how can it end like this.
At least give him a months contract for next season.
Cruelty beyond belief having nobody there for his final game.

Anything we can do on the day?

Knowing that in-spite of everything that’s kept the Rovers fans away in his final season , Copps will still get his recognition for all his footballing career by his peers and we should all feel very proud of his loyalty and the defection he has held for the club .

This is rending. It shouldn't be ending like this. It just shouldn't.

A few on here have wondered whether Copps did remain a small percent undecided on this season being his last.  If there was indeed any doubt in his mind, I suspect the last few weeks' abject performances might just have swung it for him.

Look at it from copps POV, we ran so close up till Christmas putting in a challenge, to how it’s fizzled out, must be heart breaking for him, and to possibly go through it all again next season? Same heart break? Another new manager to prove age is just a number. He will get his chance to say good by, but it won’t be by playing on for one more season.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who quietly thought we would achieve promotion one way or another and make it a fitting finale for the great man.

Absolutely gutting and tragic that we can't fill the stadium for his last home league game.

Everytime I hear him speak now, my eyes mist up.

He has to have a role at the club, if he wants it. Working with players across all age groups about mental attitude, visualisation, awareness, skills, sports psychology... He’d be inspiring.

Really sad. Remember been gutted when Paul Green went to Derby because i'd grew up watching him for so long. So this is a completely different level.

Think it'll hit home when we start next season and he's not on the team sheet or even on the back of the programme.

All good things come to an end at some point.   What a player and what a bloke though.

Simply our greatest ever player and no disrespect to King Alick either.
I will miss seeing him in our colours.
A suitable date should be made for a send off match in the near future.
It could well be a sell out.

I only hope the club ha e offered him the extra year so we can show our appreciation
If they haven’t then that’s a disgrace

How exactly is not offering someone who's repeatedly said he's retiring at the end of the season another season a "disgrace"? Christ, do you actively go looking for things to whinge about?

I don’t think he will carry on in another position as he has his own private business interests.  I might be wrong and I hope he does take a position with us so we will see

Another sad thing about Paul Green was that he could have become the only player to play for Rovers at 4 league levels (Conference and tiers 4, 3 and he missed out on the Championship). Now unlikely to happen to any Rovers player in my lifetime and much longer.

Couldn’t the club sign him on a very short term contract for the start of next season and bring him on in added time, in the first home match? A bit like JR at Hereford? That way he would get a proper send off, plus get credit for playing in another season.
