Interesting, that interview. Sounds like Richie was on the blower to him as soon as he got the job. He must really rate him. That's good enough for me!

I'm sure Richie will have a few that will sign for him, either now or in the future, depending when the times right.

I’d hope he has more than a few sign for him, otherwise we’ll be struggling to put a squad out for the first game!

Unsurprisingly he sounds very southern........ so do we think we will need a full time interpreter going forward...... and do you think his pronunciation of DON-carster will improve..?

From the Pompey Forum:

Some predictable responses from the Pompey fans on there wilts.

Couple of things

1. Some of them really aren't keen on John, are they?
2. Their forum is absolutely shite compared to ours. Don't know how lucky we are!

Re the second point, I find most other clubs' forums hard work to read, compared to ours.

Love to see them on the same pitch, but I feel Bostock is destined for S6

On the left of a two man partnership?

Sounds like he should be a great signing. We really are desperate for a proper defensive midfielder to play with him though. I think that could be the most important signing we make this summer. Someone like Paul Keegan.

A good little write up about him here. Sounds like he’d of been a key player for Cowley but he came in too late to sort his future.

I don’t necessarily see why Bostock and Close couldn’t play in the same team… but it would be dependent on getting a player in there that can get around the pitch and win the ball back. That’s an imperative piece of the jigsaw for me. The best footballing teams in the world all have one.

Agreed Jon. We need the L1 equivalent of N’Golo Kanté.

Now, we only need to find him!

Wellens likes to play a 4231. I’d be interested to see if Close plays in the two or in behind the front. Not sure him and Bostock could play in the double pivot together, I’d love to know Richie’s plan.

Ritchie did comment on having a ‘Brian Stock’ type player at the defensive end of midfield, who can spray the passes out and dictate the play, much like Brian did back in the day. I think Ben is his man, but - I don’t see Bostock being the man to partner him, though!

If Wellens plays one up, then we have two players who haven’t done a great job in that role, to choose from. In fact Fej probably better as one of the wide players of the three. Wellens is going to have to work hard / miracles to get Bogle scoring regularly, if last season is any sign.

Still maintain we won’t see Bostock do his remaining contract time.

Surely Bostock would command a fee then?

If we wanted one. It might suit Richie's plans to move JB on

Why have e all decided suddenly that we don't want jb anymore? We need strength in depth in the squad, he needs a full preseason to get up to speed and is a quality player. To say you lot are fickle is and understatement given how everyone said John would win us the league last season

Close isn’t a similar player to Stock. His best attributes are attacking ones. Maybe RW thinks he convert him to more of a holding player, doubt that’s the plan though, could be wrong.

I don’t think ‘we’ all have, have we?

Anyway: some Close goals… he not scared of having a pop.

Hopefully we get the squad sorted ready in time for pre season training giving them time to gel. Seems a quality start though. Who is next lol

They look like the sort of goals that BW used to pick up.

There are more players to follow by the sounds of it...

Can't imagine we'll have a sorted squad before the end of June............. that's not the Rovers way..

When was the last time (if ever) we went into pre-season with the majority of the squad sorted?

It’s interesting that we have become used to this, with our unfortunate managerial turnover, short contracts and amount of movement between leagues in the last decade, that every summer looks like a massive rebuild.
