Not sure Why people think Ed Williams is a winger.

He played most of his football as a central midfielder as far as i am aware.
His main position is CAM but can also play on either wing. We don’t play the 4231 anymore so he wouldn’t be a CAM and I don’t think he’s much of a CM. He also played on the left of the front 3 against Bradford.

I think that given we have almost new squad...............again. mid table is prob our best shout. I think whilst covid will impact I feel our lowering season ticket numbers reflect this too.

8th  - I think it will take a bit of time for a consistent 11 and for the players to get to grips with how wellens wants to play in league one

With 10 days to go we still need players another No1 GK, DM with size and quick winger and get Taylor and Okenbirhie back. Our seaso will be a slow start but I think we’ll finish mid table hoping higher.

As things stand 15th at best but with a bit of luck and a few new faces possibly between 8th and 12th

8-10th feels about right. In terms of points can see us being well adrift of 6th mind.

Based on the fact that:
1. Our team building hasn’t finished yet, and
2. We’ve already had 2 fairly long term injury problems, and
3. RW has gone on record to say we are a couple of weeks away, due to the Covid problem
it’s too early to judge exactly where we’ll finish!

This season is going to be a slow burner and, until RW gets his preferred DM player, I ‘d say we’ll be bottom half. I would hope that things may improve after the January window and we end up about mid-table (fingers and toes crossed).

Our biggest problem is the lack of a proven goal scorer imo.
Fej is out for 8+ weeks. Bogle is hopeless and Cukur is a young player still learning his trade.
Taylor and Barlow will chip in with a few but are we capable of scoring enough goals?

The defence is incomplete and with Jones at the back of it, can we afford to allow him to make mistakes in order to “develop”?

Quite frequently conceding soft goals through error and contributing via lack of positional skill to others will cost us in tight games. Should we be giving him match time here when (if he is good enough at a lower level) he could be getting it on loan. The worrying thing is that he does not seem to have earned himself many games (if any) in his previous loans.

Is it really good for anyone’s development to be forced to run before they can walk?

So, if there is no change there I fear a scramble below the half way mark.

My heart says top 6, but head says mid-table. I think we have to be realistic in all fairness

I hope for mid table - around 10th -12th. Hopefully allows us to bed in and get some players up to speed.

Part of me thinks we may be hovering around 18th - 20th though.

Depends how the new recruits bed in and how reliant we'll be on youngsters.

Time will tell. I certainly hope I'm proved wrong!

So much positivity. :(

After this season I can't blame those having a less than cheery outlook on next season.

I think we'll struggle a bit. I certainly hope I'm wrong and will support the team regardless. Just like I have since 1974.

Looking where Bristol Rovers and Northampton are (who were terrible last season) shows roughly what we can expect in L2. So i think we should be looking at the top 3. As a club it's failure if we don't get that and we need to start having those high standards of ourselves.

Reality of what we'll get will depend on the summer and if GM is actually up to much as a coach. This is where doubt creeps in about where we'll finish. Can see us having a poor start before climbing back into the play offs after a change in coach.

The thread was from last year. I was pointing out a lot of people thought we'd be near the play offs this season, not relegated.

There are some absolutely shocking predictions there for last season. People predicting we would get promoted or in one case win the title! Amazing how people viewed what was very largely the squad we ended up with all season, as being good enough to get us promoted. Hindsight a wonderful thing and my prediction of finishing outside the play offs was right, just not 50 points or so outside the play offs…

If there is little investment, yes. I was just looking at our U18 squad and wondering how many will play the last match of the season.......
