Illustrates Cowleys view perfectly that some clubs are paying outrageous wages if they have blown a Championship club out of the water regarding the terms on offer - it can’t end well!

But it may well do they also offered over £1m for a centre half from Rangers which looks like being accepted.

Yeah this isn't healthy for the game. The money at the top of the game has totally distorted everything and the rot is reaching our level now. Just like how the Championship is now Premier League 2 with crazy unsustainable sums being thrown about, League One will soon become Premier League 3. Not sure what this means for a club like ours, but it can't be good.

They get big enough crowds at Ipswich to potentially afford the wages. They are a very big club for this level, and can more than compete financially with Barnsley.

Purely based on fans

I'm not sure it is, based on how much income they get v wages being paid it will not be anywhere close to breaking even. What makes me laugh is that the Ipswich fans getting jumpy about how much money they are spending and how other fans are commenting on it.

I hope they and Paul cook fail massively

They now look like they have signed another player George Edmundson for a substantial fee

Didn't do the likes of Sunderland any good for however many years. At this level the over inflated cost of a player is not in direct proportion to the players quality, they are paying up front for potential yet to be demonstrated, In Ipswich's case it could be boom or bust if this does not work.

I'm hoping the scouser gets it in the neck  :)

It is going to end up with three divisions throwing insane amounts of cash about, and the clubs that won't/can't do it scrambling around towards the bottom of League Two and non league.

It is slowly filtering down the divisions.

It may turn out badly but there is an old philosophy about investing during a slump; things are cheaper that way and investments heighten in price when the economy recovers.

If they can afford it good luck to them.

The problem is they can’t afford it. They are gambling with the clubs future.

Will they never learn. Seems not.

Let’s be thankful for our owners. They simply will not be drawn into this ridiculous auction.  :clapping:

Ipswich can’t afford it? They’ve just been bought by a $13bn company.

The thing with Ipswich is that they now have a manager who will take them back to the higher echelons of the Championship over the next 2 or 3 years. Whereas Sunderland & Pompey have Lee Johnson & Danny Cowley!

Must have been the nutters on twitter, not the feeling in the link here. 4th choice striker last season that started so many games due to the Manager rotating the front three every game.

Nobody I know is that bothered about Chaplin leaving ,  He's had his moments but they are very infrequent .

With his size and body you have to exceptionally quick or extremely talented to cut it in the championship and Conor is neither .

Best of luck to him at Ipswich Town .
