Maybe read this NR

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/oct/01/sarah-everard-murder-police-commissioner-apologises-for-saying-women-should-be-more-streetwise

And this

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/oct/01/police-log-10000-indecent-exposure-cases-but-fewer-than-600-reach-court

And then think about what any of your female relatives and friends would think if they were alone and were stopped by police or were flashed by some mind numbingly thicko out at night?

And our beloved PM comes out with a statement about police protecting women more.
Bit rich for someone who had the police knocking on his door after an altercation with his then girlfriend , whose father has an alleged history of being a wife beater once breaking his wifes nose

You must think I don’t read the news.

The police commissioner is one person.
Wayne couzens was one person. ( although person is a stretch I admit)
Beverley Allitt was one person
Harold Shipman was one person.
The Ipswich trucker that killed those prostitutes was one person.
Then there are all those men of the cloth who have abused their position to abuse children.
Jimmy Saville.
I can speak of magistrates and judges who have been convicted of possession and distribution of indecent images.
Scout leaders the same
Teachers the same
The list goes on and on and on.
The vast majority of these people that have done the most atrocious crimes within their community are people of trust. Sadly, history shows that society has been littered with these types. And sadly, despite our best efforts, it will continue to do so.

Their actions do not mean that we plunge everyone, every single other person in that profession, into suspicion and mistrust.
To do so would be quite ridiculous. Fear of going to the doctors. Fear of going to a hospital, fear of going to a church, fear of walking the streets. Fear of the police.
My wife of 31 years and my 75 yr old grandmother think it’s absolutely ridiculous that the Police are getting hammered for this. As do many of my other female friends.

I’ve got news for you. The world is a very nice place, full of very nice people but every so often , we get to see the not so nice side of human behaviour. It’s called life.
And to suggest we start mistrusting the police is going to make life in general a lot less nice.

But don’t take my word for it.
Might I suggest you go spend some time living in a Country like Albania. Where the Police are not trusted. And for good reason.

Treat people like you expected to be treated yourself. You cannot, nor should you, plan or legislate for the Wayne Couzens of this world.

Very good post normal rules, every profession has the odd evil person in and if the guy was not a copper he probably would have found another way to commit this horrible crime

"This won't get reported by the press, but here are the comments by the trial judge for the evil murderer Cousins.
'This has been the most impressive police investigation that I have encountered in the 30 years I have been sitting as a part-time and full-time judge.
The speed with which the evidence leading to the arrest of the defendant was secured is highly notable, as has been the painstaking reconstruction of these events using electronic material along with more old-fashioned methods of policing. It cannot be suggested in my view that the Metropolitan Police, even for a moment, attempted to close ranks to protect one of their own. Instead, remorselessly, efficiently and impartially the investigating officers followed all the available leads, resulting in an overwhelming case against the accused.
Meriting particular mention are Detective Chief Inspector Catherine Goodwin, Detective Kim Martin and Acting Detective Inspector Lee Tullett.
Mr Tullett has been a key figure in the investigation and the preparation of this case, going well beyond what could properly be expected of any police officer,'

I had to post this, it’s stolen from another site.....We all know that the media will never mention the Judge’s comments, but for those who have Served and those still Serving, it gives some comfort, that The Job went all out to put this bas**rd away FOREVER....

It's how you interpret the news that counts NR.

Listing a series of one offs against a whole host of well documented racist, misogynist and just plain blundering problems doesn't make any sense.

The police Commissioner of a whole area of North Yorkshire is victim blaming, showing he is unsuitable for the job, those things shows he hasn't got a clue about crime and victims.

Wayne Couzens background should have been investigated and most likely have been charged instead of being hired.

The Yorkshire ripper could have been caught much earlier but the investigation was blundered.

The problems are within the force.

Blatant racist stop and search of black people, 9 times more likely.

Misogynist attitudes within the force, look at rape convictions (this is also a problem with society and judiciary)

Look at how the police respond they cave into political pressure and they break the law themselves.

Police spy on left wing organisations, miners strike. Hillsborough look how they lied and lied before the truth came out.

Their needs to be a royal commission into the police force to ensure neutrality and competence, almost every time you post a single incident there are problems within the investigation. A royal commission will clear out the incompetents sort out recruitment and maybe the public women and minorities will feel and be safer.

By the way you didn't answer my question.

I’d love to live in the world you aspire to SR.

Without imperfection.
Without human error.
Without people who make bad choices.
Without misogyny.
Without racism
Without bigotry.
Without prejudice.
Without crime.
Without murder.

I went in my local Waterstones today to seek out a book.
Guess what, the shelves in there are full of books covering the sorts of topics I refer to above. Crime, hate, racism, murder, bigotry, imperfection, human error. We read about it, write about it, some practice it, some fantasise about it, some challenge it, some accept it, some are in denial of it.and guess what, some do their very best to Police it.

There will be plenty of lone women being spoken to, up,and down the country by police tonight. Sadly many will be victims of domestic abuse. Some will be lone motorists, possibly involved in an accident who need help, some may be missing persons, or suffering with mental health issues.  You wont hear of the hundreds of such events tomorrow in the news. Because in the 21c in this country, people doing good things do not make the news. Instead we focus on the bad. And we have become far too good at it.

I don’t want a world where everyone seeks to lay blame at the feet of all of those who do their utmost to make life good, but whose efforts are undermined by a very very small minority.

And if we disagree on this, then might I suggest our lives are very different, and it has nothing to do with politics, race or gender.

All I want is the police force to do their job competently independently of government (separation of powers) without bias but atm you cannot say that is happening with any degree of certainty.

You still haven't answered the question.

Those in support of the present situation with the police.

''And then think about what any of your female relatives and friends would think if they were alone and were stopped by police or were flashed by some mind numbingly thicko out at night?''

Would you be happy for a female relative of yours to get in the car?

To answer your question. I continue to trust the police . I know they act without fear or favour. The only time anyone should get in a police car is if they are under arrest or being questioned or if they need help .

And as you made ref to politics in this can I remind you that in 2009 the police went to the cps with evidence of child abuse against a certain Jimmy saville . The cps said there was not enough evidence . We now believe that he had abused over 500 children. The reason I point this out is the head of the cps then was a certain Kier Starmer.

And those shouting about this are affecting change you will be pleased to hear. Police Scotland have announced that lone officers will be subject to on the spot checks when questioned by lone females. Lone females will be able to call 999 to the police control room to check the officer is genuine.
Sadly this will clog up valuable call space in the 999 system which is already full to busting meaning that another member of public who has a genuine emergency could miss out and be at risk .

Yes I would be happy for anyone I know male or female to get in a police car with a lone male officer.
I thought that was plainly obvious.

And to have a full understanding of how the Police work, as you seem so passionate about it, might I suggest you volunteer to spend a little time as a member of the Special constabulary in your local area. All force areas are desperate for such. Just four hours a week is all they ask for.

You will get an opportunity to see first hand the issues the police face on a day to day basis. You will see some of the amazing things they do and you will meet some very dedicated committed people.  You may also be a little slower to chide as a result.

That conversation has already taken place. Across the board, the response is unanimous. I even put a post out on my fb page asking such.

People are resilient, and whilst i do understand  and and empathise with the worry this incident has caused, the general public should go about their business as usual, and allow the police to do their job, which they do admirably day in day out.

Couzens was an aberration, of the worst kind. I do not doubt that he would have killed no matter what employment he was in. And believe me, no one hates a bent cop more than cops themselves. I hope to hear of his premature death in the coming months.

I'm impressed with your enthusiasm but the evidence suggests otherwise, look at any inquiries over the previous 10-20 years look as you pointed out at the Scottish police situation they are concerned about what people think. Look at police still in the job following sex allegations. Don't you think the force should be squeaky clean, set an example?

''More than 750 Met Police employees have faced sexual misconduct allegations since 2010 – with just 83 sacked''

''Scale of police sexual abuse claims revealed''
This article is more than 2 years old and nothing done.
''Nearly 1,500 accusations made against officers in England and Wales over six years''

Look how long it took the Lawrence family to get answers.

A friend of mine once was telling me that his wife was going mental because she had seen him out with another woman (it was a client by the way).
He asked me why women always go mad if a man is unfaithful but thy never say anything about all the times a man goes out and is faithful.
