u18s at Thorne tomorrow evening
« on August 02, 2021, 06:05:58 pm by selby »
The u18s play Thorne Colliery at Thorne 7-00pm kick off and would be pleased to see any supporters who can get down to watch them for the first time.
Even the second year scholars have never played in front of a Doncaster Rovers crowd due to limited people being able to watch their games all last season and the first few games of this due to Covid 19 restrictions.
So if you can get down and give both teams some support they would be pleased to see you, and it will be a new experience for most of them to play in front of a crowd not made up mostly of parents and friends and even those were restricted at a lot of games.

Decent set up at Thorne too. Should be a good night for the Academy Team and the Colliery lads.

Anton there has not been much interaction between the two separate team  bubbles the u18s centred at the Keepmoat and the first team at Cantley, unlike other seasons with both being centred at Cantley The second year student players have had the worst introduction into professional football of any intake of players we ever have had losing a lot of last season before Christmas with that part of the season postponed. This is the first chance for them to show their worth to spectators and supporters of the club.
A little support to them wouldn't be a bad idea, get yourself down to watch them you might be pleasantly surprised.

Thorne are quite a well organised side with some tidy experienced players that have done the rounds at levels not too far below the league they have a good crop of youngsters (well 23 yo down) too mixed in with the experienced lads. The manager I'd James O'Neill (former Retford captain) and the coaching/management staff includes  several guys that have been involved in simular capacities at league clubs. I am also, as it happens, the man on the mic for em. Lincoln academy beat em 1-0 and they drew with chesterfield's academy 1-1 so it'll be a good test for both teams - it would be nice to see a fair few down there tonight if poss.

Selby, who are the number 14 and 20 down this left side second half - they look good!

Is it Dan wilds and Tom parkinson?

Yes the unfortunate injury to tom on the right is a worry he is a big player for us normally.
Enjoyed the game thought we were not at it defensively and seem to be same as the first team slow and careless with the ball, and Thorne played some good football and should have a very good season.
And a good turn out to watch.

Both teams played two different sides in each half, with the rovers having some u16s involved and overall were a very young side even for an u18s team.
Individual mistakes contributed to conceding goals with set pieces and a penalty being responsible for three of the goals.
Thorne also fielded two completely different sides in each half and were very good, playing good football at pace and look likely to have a very good season with strength in depth being a good sign at their level.
It was a good turn out for the game and the Thorne club were a credit with the facilities and the welcome they gave to the team and supporters, a very enjoyable evening and a credit to the standard that the local football sides are now aspiring to.

Yeah it was a good work out for both sides and one that could be repeated on a regular basis during quiet weeks. Thorne also have a full development squad as well and are really setting a marker out for themselves as a seriously run club.

A14475, Thorne certainly look like a team that are improving both the facilities and on the field of play and are a credit to those that run the club and the Town they represent.
