The men who buy football
« on August 11, 2021, 10:49:00 pm by albie »
Investigative documentary by Aljazeera into the football industry;
https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/8/9/investigation-reveals-football-used-to-launder-money-men-who-sell-football

Some might be interested in the non-football reasons for people getting involved.

No surprise at all. It's been going on for some time and the authorities have been slow to act.

I saw a report over a year ago by the FSA about the City of London being referred to as a hotbed of money laundering and HSBC Bank were singled out as being culpable of being complicit in allowing dirty money into the system. Large business loans being paid off from offshore funds.....Funnily enough one of which was Belize bank where our old friends Sequentia set up shop, aided by their dodgy solicitor who just so happened to previously work for Belize Bank.

I wonder if Sequentia ever truly existed, in Belize or anywhere. Their website looked like it was set up by a work experience kid in limited gaps between porn binges in his bedroom.

Look at the transfer fees being paid, look how the big clubs were willing to hang out clubs like ours to dry just 18 months ago, look at how they furloughed staff because they could 18 months ago, and put a fifty per cent tax on all transfers with a total value of over a million, and a seventy per cent tax on all agent fees.

They did exist that's for sure. But the deal worked out was a real kick in the nuts for loyal DRFC fans and a total con. Eventually LT's lawyers came to their senses. I still have copies of the correspondence.

Stand out from the video for me is that the EFL are playing along with this.
They know full well about the tricks set out by Samuelson, but choose to not investigate further, or tighten their own rules in response.

I wonder how many clubs are currently owned by those who used these methods to buy control?

It might be controversial but I've been wondering for a while now if Britian is not amongst the most corrupt nations on Earth? When one remembers the headlines, the reports, the scandals of the last couple of decades, and when one realises that the scandals which do hit the press, are, by definition, the tip of the iceberg, then Britain does not look good at all does it?

It is Bob. And it has been for centuries. Same as over here in the States. Completely corrupt. They used to hide it better, but in recent years, since Trump actually, they just don’t bother because they know they’re pretty much untouchable.

At least with ‘traditionally’ corrupt countries you know where you stand. They’re going to try and f**k you and you are prepared for it. Example: Mexico… I know a few folks who have been pulled over by local police, who found some previously non-existent problem with their car, and they’ve been asked to pay a ‘fine’ or risk arrest.

It’s not right but it’s generally accepted as a risk and the authorities have not really tried to crack down on it.

Touch wood, have not personally had any issues south of the border…

I remember at the time we did a google search on their address and it was some wooden shack!

But still hey… “I have in my hand a piece of paper.”

No. But we failed to pay a big enough bribe for our previous application. That was well known after the event. I think I remember even Bobby Charlton saying something about it after we got the one single vote...

I don't doubt that they existed as a legal entity and I recall your previous posts about how their representatives tried to put the frighteners on you. You have my permanent respect for dealing with that because there were some rough bas**rds reputedly involved. What I meant was that I wonder if they ever existed as more than a front to appear as a genuine, functional company in order to advance the bid. There is no indication as far as I've ever seen that Sequentia did any significant real trading either before or after the whole takeover b*llocks. The stories on their website of the supposed trading they had done looked like a pile of made up shite.

It's been banks that have facilitated the movement of corrupt money, look no further than  HSBC and governments that have failed to hold them to account, now money can be transferred via blockchain it may already be too late.

Well, well, well!

Yep, we've been keeping track of her for a few years Baz, she was the one doing the dirty work here in the UK and sent out all the threatening letters we were getting.

Yes, I remember her from the letter complete with poor grammar and spelling mistakes! Not entirely dissimilar to a dodgy website!

Changed her name recently too! Had a connection with West Yorkshire Rugby League too I seem to remember but I guess you already knew that possible connection back to DRFC?

Anyway, so glad you're here on the otherside with that all behind you!

Some links with HSBC and the Man City Prince that's caused some concern in the not too distant past.

If a decent government got in and made it a priority to capture illegal money in the City it would close more than half of it down. Football has been a resting place for criminal money for years no. Certainly since the rise of the Premiership, it stinks of illegal money.

I saw that Albie.

It shows you the scale of the wealth that is there to be accessed if a small, homely fourth division club is now worthy of the attentions of this sort of people....
