Let's talk about the Portsmouth game
« on August 18, 2021, 08:42:32 am by selby »
By now I think most of us will have realised that life this season is not going to be easy.
Every individual silly mistake we make at the back seems to be punished while we are proving inadequate in front of goal at the other end, and the football in between hardly setting the world alight much of it being sloppy with poor passing and decision making a lot more likely to happen than controlled football and is definitely not enjoyable to watch.
And now we play a team that have made the perfect three wins from three, sit proudly at the top of the table and must be full of confidence,  and even more so if they sent scouts to watch our game at Accrington when they read the reports.
The two teams have been keen adversaries with hopes of getting promotion over the last few seasons but now look to be heading in different directions, What would we give for Marquis playing for us now?
Unless the two lads who have been isolating with Covid 19 and are fit it is difficult looking at who was on the bench just what we can do with the present playing staff available to improve our team selection, and up front where the main problem lies with Chucker looking like Clark Harris when we had him on loan two years from being up to league standard, and nothing at all going right for Bogle in games although in fairness he did improve things when he came on last night.
The manager has a massive task in front of him, and definitely needs support and time to sort it, nobody has a magic wand.
So, what would your team selection be?
Are we capable of better things?
Accrington just, and it must be said were allowed to man handle our players by another poor official, break the game up at every opportunity, and play the spoiling game much like Wimbledon, and we had again no answers, How would you counter act that, because a lot of teams will now take that approach to us this season?
Are you like me getting absolutely sick of, we will call them referees assistants (posh for lap dogs) take no part in giving decisions to fouls that are committed right in front of their eyes?
Lots of things to discuss about this game, please have your say.

Same sqaud Steve, but there's discussion to be had about how that squad's utilised.

There’s also a discussion to be had who signed all the young lads in the summer which is stopping the manager from bringing any more in. With probably only Horton at the level of an average league one player. Apart from Cameron John there is not anther player on the bench that should start.
But hey ho the Vikings and club hierarchy are making sure the club is solvent the football doesn’t matter we still have a club.
I also forgot the Vikings hierarchy didn’t want Richie to get the job so they can discuss that with CEO as well.

Not sure that was necessary Steve, you said yourself you'd prefer a change to 352, I was only following on from that.

So there is nothing to discuss about our next game. No opinions are relevant about our next opponents?

Come on Steve what is all that about?

Suspected score line 0-2

Decent performance but toothless in attack

Thought Seaman would have been ok as a close contact (unless of course he tested positive too)

We’ve lost 1 in our last 10 league games against Portsmouth, stretching back to 2013.

Well Chris So comparing our sides back to 2013 how would you rate this side which is slowly being rebuilt against the other sides that have played Portsmouth

I think we'll see a better performance on Saturday.
Portsmouth aren't like Accrington, they'll try and beat us (and probably will) by being a better football team. But at least that should allow us to have a bit more time on the ball and make better decisions in possession.
Hoping for a goal from the shot shy Rovers, but God knows who from.
Looking forward to it anyway

We either get 2 in this week or it’s as you were - performance and results wise. End of discussion.

Cowley plays a game very like Accrington and Wimbledon tommy toes, he has come from the same level and his Lincoln side were just as functional only with better players.

In true Rovers style, a 2-0 win for us is nailed on.

With no strike force whatsoever, surely RW should do what's been suggested on another thread, and play Horton or John at left back, and Tommy Rowe as the left sided midfield attacker, in place of Dan Gardner.

We all know Tommy's got a goal or two in him. Why waste him at left back when we can't buy a goal from anywhere?

Cut out the mistakes at the back and we get a Nil Nil draw.

Surely that’s not right is it? They were ruled out of the Walsall game due to covid and that was the night before, so surely they had already taken a test by that point even if the result wasn’t yet available.

No fresh injuries Smith and Seaman reported back for training this morning they will be assessed has they have missed 10 days of training. So we will see they could get on the bench?

Here's hoping they have kept to their schedules, they are sorely needed.
