Thorne Wool Mill

This is a long shot, but is there anyone on here who used to work here?
My parents used to work there until we left the area circa 1974. I think it closed down some years later.

Strange one in that I moved to Thorne in 73/4 ... did you know I was coming and got out before area went downhill

Seriously I worked at Lace Factory Coulman Street from 67 and so was around Thorne from then to now. I have never known anyone that I recall saying they worked there but I will ask around

Had you said Dunstons, AEI/GEC Chilprufe , Youngs even Thorne Engineers and Lace Factory [Faire Brothers] I could have directed you to someone straight away but strangely not the Wool Mill

I recall there was a Wool Mill Club based in what is now Sea Cadets in Union Road so it must have been a largish employer

As I replied to this I thought of Goolerover - he may be the man.I will pm him and he may have some info although he was a Dunstons man

PM sent - then I thought ...

... If you search for Thorne Old Photos and Friends of Thorne and Moorends unite [both Facebook] I reckon you would maybe get some good responses on there.

I served my Marine Engineer apprenticeship at Dunstons

Been in touch with Goole Rover but apart from remembering the Wool Mill and someone possibly getting trapped in a loom that was about his lot

Except he suspected it had been a Glasses factory... and then I remembered my Mother mentioning Almonds Glasses a lot

So we havnt moved the story on much but Thorne Old Photos on Facebook may be worth a look?
