Madger
« on September 04, 2021, 04:58:46 pm by Branton Rover »
Got himself a good 2 year contract at Crewe - I always thought there was some talent in him when he was fit - the issue he had the injury he sustained really set him back & he never rediscovered his earlier form - I remember pre COVID voting him man of the match away at Sunderland -

They’ll probably score 20 goals and go on to sell him for £1m now that we’ve let him go  ( max watters) . We good at doing other club favours !!

We didn’t see enough of Watters to develop a view. We’ve seen enough of Madger.

Let's keep every player we ever sign then, just in case eh?

The thing is, that Sunderland game and the goalscoring run at the start of last season were all he ever did. Ever so rare flashes of why he was in the academy at Liverpool, but he never put it all together and he looked worse than poor in the second half of last season when he came into games. He still needs an awful lot of development if he is to be a successful pro.

He couldn't even pass five feet sideways in the second half of last season. Shocking.

That’s a very strange analysis?
So we should keep everyone who’s scored a goal for us

Madger was one who I thought we could develop over a few seasons. I would have thought he would have been at the lower end of our wage structure  so wouldn't have cost us the earth to develop. He showed in patches what he could bring to the team and with better players and better management could have been one for the future

He’s utterly sh*t. And a lazy bugger too.

A two year contract Madger!

Show ‘em who the ‘real Gomes’ is about & go on to have a successful professional football career.

Just wished you’d been a tad more consistent for the Rovers, who knows, you could have ended up a legend.

Thanks for your very thoughtfully constructed comment, the world is a far far better place because of it

A very erudite contribution.

And he always spoke so highly of you.

He is though. Every appearance after January was bafflingly bad. There’s ring rustiness and then there’s just a general lack of ability.

Another day, another inane reason to have a dig at the club. You must scan the forum every day and make note of every thread you can negatively contribute to. Sheesh.

Very harsh comments about Madger. Seemed to be another one that suffered badly from lack of confidence but at times he had really good games and as we know scored some very good goals.

We'd definitely take the Madger that started last season so well but overall he struggled to find any consistency and nail down a starting spot.

His goal celebrations were always quite entertaining though!

I don’t think you can be signed by Liverpool and Leeds if you have a general lack of ability.
I just don’t think he’s suited to the physicality and robustness of English lower league football.
Put him in a Spanish side and he’d have a good career

He had one outstanding game at Sunderland 2 seasons ago, and scored 4 goals at the start of last season. Not much of a return for 40 games.

Not good enough IMO.

Very strange player he was to watch. Most of the time I thought he looked miles off the level, but he had that purple patch where he scored a load of goals and actually looked like he had something. Not sure what happened after the injury but he seemed to go back to looking completely lost.

He's never learnt what his game should be which is power and running with the ball and attacking the box.  His passing was average but when he got in the right areas he had potential.  Unfortunately like some other players (Dodoo), the version of the game he wants to play isn't where his skillset sits best.

Fleetwood away the final nail in his coffin. Came on and cost us the game. I personally didn't see enough in him, I found him lightweight and uncoordinated. Certainly no ill-feeling and hope he finds his place somewhere, but definitely not mourning the fact we let this one go!

He mocked Crewe on twitter when relegation was confirmed. Trolling them. The tweet was deleted later.
