Injury update:

Anderson fit and available.
John out for 4/6 weeks.
Cukur back available after not getting international clearance for the Wigan game.

Not seen anything on Barlow.

What is going on with Barlow! Wellens didn't sound convinced of him all the way through his trial before offering him the deal. Hoping it's not another Ed Williams situation.

Just checked at least Barlow was a 1 year deal so it'll go in the gamble that didn't pay off if nothing comes of it. Ed Williams at a 2 year deal was an investment which has been a complete waste
i think Wellens said after the Rotherham PJ game that he had a hamstring injury, hopefully someone can correct me if I’m wrong.

Ah that's good then. Assumed something was up for him not to be making the bench

Listen to Richie’s interview on Radio Sheffield he believes this is a winnable game. Training been good so far this week, his words good to see 21 players fit and training together for the first time with no trialists involved. He wants the players to play without fear and go for a win.
Good to have Anderson back in the squad Cukur trained well having not been allowed to play or involved against Wigan.  Also Barlow has got over his hamstring problem and as trained.
So we will wait and see what Saturday brings and like Richie a majority of supporters will like to see a win.

My first home game of the season. I'd be happy to see a team putting their b*llocks into it & fighting for each other.

1-0 off someone's arse would do me.

We need to start somewhere and pick up a point, or if we can a win. Build the confidence ,and try and work our way up the league.
We are missing an experienced core through the middle of the team.

I’d like to see Rowe played in midfield, he is wasted at left back. Get Cukur and a few others ,working at getting that sharpness back.
I think over the coming months ,Dodoo could be a big player for us.
If we can’t be the most talented team we need to be the hardest working.

Agree on Rowe he’s probably one of our most likely to score so if we’re going with a 3 in midfield I’d have him in it.

Problem is, as it as it has and will be all season, who is going to be defensive minded in the middle? Id play Galbraith and Close as a holding two. Might not be natural fit them but it’s not for any of our lads bar maybe Greaves. Id like to see him get a chance tbf but this game is too important to risk him getting sent off. As will all games from now on really!

The trouble with Close and Galbraith is that they're both technically gifted players, but can be steamrollered out of a game.

We're still missing that sh*thouse spoiler in the middle of the park. Accrington's midfield isn't short of that kind of player, and they're not doing badly in the League.

Speaking of Accrington SS, a pal of mine who is in pro football, told me that Accrington do not pay any agents fees at all, full stop. If a player wants to go there they have to agree to no agents fees or forget the deal.

In his Latest interview with the FreePress Richie says we have missed the defensive midfield destroyer his playing budget this summer would not allow him to get one. So let’s hope we can achieve that in January even if it’s a good loan which won’t be cheap for the rest of the season. He says we have 4 good midfield players all good technically so they must see their part in defensive aspects as well as attacking.Bostock has the size but he’s not a natural physical player. So we will see if any of the 3/4 who play can share the burden.

Thanks for that comprehensive statistical overview.
Only quibble I would have is with stats claiming Oluwo is a weakness  - poor lad has only played one game so stats skew that thinking.

To be fair it's probably hard to narrow it down to one weakness right now!

Our season has started that badly, that even Morecambe's manager has said he isn't writing us off ffs!

Also, be interesting to see what they're like as Robinson was in top 3 for job - top 2 even, but pipped by Wellens.

They’ve scored in five of their six league games this season, including against Wednesday and Ipswich.

Until we get to a point where we have a credible goal threat ourselves, unless we keep a clean sheet we are in trouble. Nobody needs reminding that our record with clean sheets is appalling and has been for a long time.

Strangely feels like quite a big game today. We’re nothing like in a position where the season hangs on this game, but it really does feel like we need to see a step forward today. That should come in attacking threat through the performance, and we’ll have to see if that’s enough to get us a result.

We as supporters also need to do our bit and not get on the players’ backs if things aren’t going our way. Preferably no more witless chants along the lines of “we’re f**king shit” etc. etc.

I think we all hope that after a full weeks training together we can actually see them playing as a ‘team’.

I’d like to see more ball retention, good off the ball movement & more importantly see us carry a real goal threat.

I feel we can kick start our season today & feel a win coming.

C’mon Rovers!

I also see today as a must win if only to prevent us from going into an unstoppable slide.
Also, yes the crowd can play a big part.
If we don’t get off to a good start a bad crowd reaction could further affect player confidence but I won’t hold my breath on that one.
I do feel though that we will win today.

The crowd are massive. Don’t want them singing “we have scored a goal”
That is not motivational for the players.

3 points today is almost a must imo.
Come on Rovers today is the day.

Wonder how long it will take Mr Angry in front of the police box to get on the players backs. Could go for a double with how often his family need to leave their seats and go to the toilet/bar

If Morecombe score, we have to score at least two to get a win. Maybe more.

What are the chances of Morecombe not scoring given their record this season and ours?

What are the chances of us scoring two - or more?

Football can always turn up surprises, but on any rational basis Rovers won't win.

I was feeling optimistic until I read this stone cold logic.

But.....

- I read earlier in the thread that Morecambe have injury problems in their front line
- If they score lots of goals perhaps that means they play an open game and there will be openings even Rovers can exploit
- 3 of our potential forward line have only just started playing for the Rovers - maybe they'll come good in terms of fitness/understanding each other's games for this match?

Ah there we go the typically (hopeless??) optimism of a football fan ahead of a match is restored
