Up to £30 an hr to pick broccoli in Lincolnshire
« on September 26, 2021, 07:10:08 pm by normal rules »
TH Clements are offering up to £30 an hour piece work to pick broccoli.
Based just outside Boston in the village of Bennington.

Whilst this is seasonal work, that rate equates to £62k a year! You would have to graft for that though.

I wonder how many Boston farmers voted in favour of Brexit.

Good news. Back breaking work - they'll earn every penny.

Given farmers use machinery to plant the bloody things, can't they devise some machinery to harvest them too? Just a thought.

An interesting thread this one, almost everything about brexit rolled into one.

Brexit has led to unwanted aliens leaving the country.

Farmers now have no cheap seasonal labour to help them with their crops.

Farmers have to pay high hourly rates to get the crops in, probably so high they can't do cash-in-hand.

High wages will lead to inflation and shoppers will inevitably complain about the prices.

High prices help fuel inflation.

Answers?

Wholesalers will look to foreign markets to buy better, where are the nearest markets .... oh right.

Farm hands lose jobs due to imports, farmers lose markets.

.... and ironically Boston recorded the biggest Leave vote of any area - 70 plus pc [of those that voted] - because their services were swamped by Eastern Europeans and presumably they wanted their Town back

So what will they think when they return again - or are replaced by Syrians or Afghans. If I voted eave down there I would have a right to be miffed wouldnt I ?

I also cant believe those same locals are not made to work in the fields doing the jobs they said the foreign labour was depriving them of. Have Johnson Raab Patel IDS Coffey etc lost their touch - because I thought  they would be nailed on to take away local peoples benefits unless they took up these jobs
