Doolan is a good call but I’d have to go with Colin Douglas.

A stick thin lightweight who looked a very long way from being a legend when he first arrived. As I recall though he was asked to do the Alan Warboys job for a while after Warboys was injured and few would have looked capable of following in those shoes.

Even allowing for that there was no way would anyone have believed he’d make over 500 league appearances after those first few games.

Maybe a thread on looking at it the other way round would be fun. A player who has 1 or 2 games and you think is amazing, then ends up being garbage.
