Tv licence. Who pays for them? And who doesn’t?
« on November 12, 2021, 03:17:55 pm by normal rules »
I’m seeing a lot of YouTube vids of people who are showing tv licence officers the door, quite literally.
Is non payment a gathering movement?
Been considering it for a while.
Anyone on here got any experience of this ?

I would tell them to do one, but the Mrs is the most law abiding person in Britain and pays it.

There is a group called defund the bbc. I too am considering stopping paying my licence fee. I don't watch much on bbc now anyway. Even Match of the Day makes me bilious.

Too woke now and biased as hell. Full of pussies.

I used to do enforcement for TV Licence. It was just a numbers game. Any hassle you move on to someone who puts up less defence. Glad to be out of it to be honest.

Well as long as those who don’t pay a TV license don’t then pay monthly to Sky,Amazon Prime, Netflix etc. then OK.
Despite it’s shortcomings the BBC channels are good value for me.

I hope none of the people who don't pay a tv licence ever listen to Radio Sheffield or any other BBC local or national radio station.

Did you need licences for the Home and Light pre-war wireless stations that you and Wolfie listened to, BB?

Yes mate, but the reception was a bit crap coming all the way from the Falklands.

They are by choice though. I can't watch ITV or Channel 4 on my tv for example if i don't pay for my TV licence. If there was a way of having all BBC programming blocked and not paying the licence but being able to watch anything else then that is fair and what should happen IMO.

Correct. But the licence PAYS for those radio stations and every other local radio station to exist.

People really want to have a think about what life would be like without the whole BBC before they start giving British tv programming to international billionaires and American tv moguls because they don't like the guests on Question Time.

My old man was that tight he got a black and white dog because he thought the licence would be cheaper.

If you're getting something for free, you're the commodity.

Stop and have a think who ultimately pays for the advertising...

Not at all. ITV sell your attention to advertisers. Advertisers increase the price of the product that you buy to pay for the advertising. So you do pay Robert Peston and Susannah Reid's salaries.

In fact it's worse than that of course because REALLY clever advertising gets you to buy shit that you neither need nor really want.

I watched the England game tonight and paid attention to the adverts.
Dominoes pizza. Don’t buy them. Never have.
Jd sports. Don’t go in there. Never have .
Tech, such as mobile phones (3) yep I have a mobile, but I keep it as long as poss on pay as u go sim and I still have an iPhone 5.
Asda, yep, I shop in there, but do they charge me an extra 100 odd quid a year to advertise on itv?
I am not part of the buy everything you see advertised on telly. I’m ok with advertisement paying for tv. I don’t believe I am a commodity to this.

You can watch ITV catch up without a licence.

Yes - I noticed people didnt seem to mention that you can simply choose not to pay the Licence fee - there are pages of documents setting out what you can and cant watch if you opt not to pay inluding this "summary"

The law says you need to be covered by a TV Licence to:

watch or record programmes as they’re being shown on TV, on any channel
watch or stream programmes live on an online TV service (such as ITV Hub, All 4, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Now TV, Sky Go, etc.)
download or watch any BBC programmes on BBC iPlayer.

This applies to any device you use, including a TV, desktop computer, laptop, mobile phone, tablet, games console, digital box or DVD/VHS recorder
