Labour Party data breach
« on November 12, 2021, 06:09:24 pm by albie »
It looks like Labour have lost data that they should not have been holding, via a third party;
https://www.silicon.co.uk/e-regulation/governance/labour-party-member-data-breach-425280

This is a serious breach, and will be very costly to remedy.
Expect a big fine, and legal actions to come.

Not good!

It now looks like data was passed to Gerald Coyne in the Unite election for General Secretary;
https://skwawkbox.org/2017/04/03/barrister-labours-dpa-breach-could-cost-mns-and-remake-its-nec/

The article includes a legal opinion on the validity of this, and sets out some of the GDPR legal principles which need to be followed.

Labour have not named the third party involved, or how they obtained prior informed consent from those whose data was passed to that organisation.

Here is a video comment on this fiasco;

If you paid membership by card, then the security of your data is very important.
Personal data information getting into criminal hands could also lead to identity fraud.

We still don't know how long this has been going on.
Labour say they became aware on October 29, but how long before that was it undiscovered?
