Hopefully for us and for Olowu, it will be rescinded.

There really should be a framework in place by the EFL for suspending refs for 5 games or something each time they get a decision wrong that leads to a red card being overturned on appeal IMO.

Then this might sharpen their focus and decision making.

Would they not just ignore even more fouling though

I bet the appeal will fail as the Ref will say it looked dangerous to him

Not a chance of the appeal succeeding, its us against Bolton, we didn’t win the last appeal in a stonewall case against them

Surely that falls under the clear and obvious error when it’s viewed.
Out of interest who actually presides over the appeal - is it another ref or a panel ?
You would think that this is where former players should have input (in addition to assessing refs)

Yep, fair point. Could lead to more fouls being ignored. Also though it could lead to them being less quick to send players off. Just because a challenge is rash doesn't make it a sending off. For example, Lincoln player on Taylor IMO a yellow. Olowu IMO a yellow but the ref was quick to send Olowu off.

What galls almost as much is how he ignored the fracas afterwards particularly the assault by Santos

I’d be very surprised if it was rescinded.

TBF, he the referee wasn't that quick and had the Bolton players and management screaming at him.  It reminded me of Fejiri Okenabirhie's sending off against Gillingham in February 2020 - when fatty Evans and bench leapt off the bench in front of the referee and lino.

Can't see it being rescinded all the same - it was a trip and not particularly dangerous, but they will side with the referees judgement....  However, I would say that it was totally unnecessary and Olowu needs to learn from it.  If it is upheld it drops us further into the mire...

I think because it was a foul from behind and there was no attempt to play the ball it will be seen as dangerous play and be upheld but I wish you well with it anyway. We’ve appealed a couple last season and had them overruled but to be fair they weren’t even a yellow just refs mistakes. As I say good luck anyway.

The other thing to consider as well is that Santos would have been hoping that Dodoo would react in such a way that he too would have been sent off.
There was another Bolton player, the one who scored the third goal I think, who ran straight at Olowu wagging his finger in his face and screaming at at him from a few inches away.
That was also with the intent of provoking a reaction and making sure he was sent off.

As has been mentioned, very much like the Fej situation at Gillingham.

Just another very poor example of a very incompetent ref being swayed by the melee from the Bolton benches.

What i would like to know is why do these very poor individuals never seem to consult or listen to what the linesman(i can't call them assistant refs because they are anything but)may or may not have to say on the matter, they talk about it being an officiating team but most just wont let the linesman have any input whatsoever, i've even seen some proper puffed up peacocks not even allowing then to call the throw ins. What does this tell you about the general incompetence of these people.

The outcome of the appeal is doomed before it sets sail, they will just close ranks around this pitiful example of a ref.

No accountability, id love to see his assessors report on the whole farce.

Does he get another game if the red card is upheld? I totally agree it was a clear yellow as it was a professional foul, but little/no intent (that I could see) to injure - but as a foul did occur and its down to the ref's judgement i can't see them rescinding it either. Wellens obviously wants to make a point that he isn't happy with it.

Very inexperienced challenge, he gave the red a decision to make and with Bolton pressuring the situation ,this is what we got.
I don’t think it will be successful the appeal, solely because it’s from behind, stretching with studs up, even though there was no malice involved.

There was a similar challenge in the Birmingham vs Coventry game on Tuesday which resulted in woods being sent off aswell. Wellens has said in his press conference that that sending off may help the case because it was on sky and the panel said it was a poor decision.

Agreed. On a technicality. The fact that his studs were raised (even though he clearly didn't and had no intention of going into the challenge with a straight leg and studs making contact with the back of the Bolton player) will be enough for them to side with the ref. It's morally wrong because by no interpretation was that recklessly or maliciously dangerous, but it'll be upheld on the letter of the law.

I agree, whichever side of the fence you sit, we are all supporters who care about the club.
It could do Bailey, just doubt it because of the reasons I said.

Slagging him off in the media after the Plymouth game won't help our cause.
And then we wonder why he doesn't want to discuss during the match.

Not sure - do they have to deem it a 'frivolous appeal' to extend the ban maybe?

No, Mush. They only do that if they consider the appeal to be frivolous; in other words, if they think you're appealing against a red card that is obvious.
